Realizing that by concerted action on the part of the retail merchants they can make it advantageous for people to trudo In Medford and at the same time control pronilscous adver tising schemes which are an added cost to overhead, the retailers havo consented to form a lictall Merchant's Bureau of tho Medford Chamber of Commerce. SALEM, Ore., Oct. 14 George Rid dle, former county Judge of Douglas county, now a horticulturist at the town of Kiddle, which was named for him was yesterday appointed by the state board of control as superinten dent of tho state soldiers' home at itoseburK. He succeeds K. W. Taylor of Eugene, who resigned to give more attention to a farm near Newberg. Kiddle served in tho legislature of 1897. Ho participated In the Indian wars in Oregon in 1855 and 1856 as a member of Company A, Oregon vol unteers, and served three years in the Civil war with Company C, first Ore gon cavalry.
