The entire basement of the new
vault will be used for tlu storage of
old county records, heretofore stored
in a haphazard manner in the wood
shed and the loft thereof. Some of
these records date back to 1853, when
the documents were written by hand.
Practically all of the tar rolls, except
those of the current year, occupy a
niche In the woodshed. WindowB will
be placed in the basement, so work
can be carried on, also electric lights.
When the vault Is completed the re
corder's office will be moved to the
room now occupied by the county trea
surer, and the treasurer's office will be
moved to the front, using the vault
now In this space.

Thunder Bird fell in love with Red Bird and challenged her to' run a
race wilh hirn.'.' Red 'Bird: had announced she would marry whoever
could beat her in a foct-race. When she heard the challenge, she said,
"Thunder Bird, you will first have to shcy me that you can run To
prove that you can run fast enough to exercise me, you will first have to
run a race Uiith the swiftest runner among our men with heavy ;tcnes
tied around your nnhlesv" ,
So Thunder Bird tied stones around his ankles; and UHth.that handi
cap he beat them all. ; But he was greatly exhausted from- carrying the
weights on his ankles. Red Bird did not love him; so no sooner had
the stones been removed from his ankles than she urged him to run.'
She thought that she could certainly beat him while he was tired. .. ;

For a while Red Bird led the race; but Thunder Bird was beside her
before the race was half over: Then Red Bird tripped him. But she
could not foot him that way twice; and the next time he leaped high over
