' ' .The iwrlocl beginning October 9 and ending October 16 has been designated as one to observe the rules of fire pre vention and study the Information that is being given out by competent In structors, f . The science of fire prevention has made great strides in the last ten years, especially with regard to busi ness and public buildings. ' The use' of reinforced concrete has greatly simpli fled the problem of erecting fireproof buildings. Destructive fires in large business or manufacturing or public buildings are becoming rarer as the years pass. Hut in the matter of common pre cautions about the homes and those factories and institutions not yet ren dered fireproof, there is a lot to be learned. Some of the most rudimen tury principles of fire prevention have been ignored. The proper use of elec trical appliances, the proper ,way of storing and handling gasoline and the safeguarding of flues do not receive enough consideration. There are still many grave hazards. The disposal of trash and . other combustible surplusage is a matter that should be studied. ' The next ten days will see a concert ed effort to further the cause of edu eating the public and the children in the schools in the matter of firo pre vention, insurance and related sub jects. To pay careful attention to this effort is a concern of simple business efficiency and prudence. CASCARETS" IF SICK BILIOUS, HEADACHY FROM THE BOWELS CJrt a 10-cent box now. The Mail Tribune has Just been given a contract for a largo and vigor ous advertising campaign by tho Calu met Uaklng Power Co. Any company that spends such nn enormous amount of money employs experts who study and analyze conditions before such n campaign is launched. Tho agents of the company enter the field to find out what's going on and to learn whether or not the timo is ripo for a big advertising campaign and found Medford very favorable territory. The action of the Calumet people Is certainly a great lesson to all of us. It proves there is ono thing greater than business depression and thnt is the "go get 'em" spirit. It is that spirit tuat is sustaining the country today and helping make this the greatest in dustriul and mercantile country in tho world. An old preacher once said that the sounder his congregation slept the louder he talked until the very force of his voice held up their eyelids and made them listen, and just so is it possible for you for any merchant for any advertiser to win the attention of the public if you just talk loud enough and often enough through an up-to-date advertising medium.
