follows: '
:On March 13, 1911, Uncle Sam pur
chased several lots in Medford for a
poatofflco site. Since then a modern
poatofflco and federal courthouse
building has been erected on tho

tornoy and the sheriff's office assort
ed that the propurty wus free from
all incumbrance.
In 1916 Jackson county officials de
cided to buy in nil property on which
taxes had not been paid. An agree
ment was made with the city of Med
ford to sell to tho city all property
within tho city limits to protect tho
city on Its street liens. County of
ficials found that the taxes on a strip
of the postoffico property 20 by 125
.feet or a strip 20 feet wide running
along tho alleyway for "125 feet, had
not been paid. They were J60.23.
- The county took over tho property
and attempted to sell It to the city.
Fehl brought suit to enjoin the sale
arid won out on tho grounds thnt
there were no slroct liens against tho
.tovernmcnt property. Fehl then Ho
noured tUIo for about $145. 'J ho as
sessed value of tho property at that
time was $900..

ON LEGION RATES
The eastern railroads have granted
a one cent a mile rate to the national
American Legion convention in Kan
sas City, Mo., October 30th to Novem
ber 1st, but the lines in the northwest
have so far refused this rate. If their
attitude is maintained the many mem
bers on the Pacific coast will be ex
cluded from attending.
Chambers of commerce . and city
councils all over the northwest are
passing resolutions protesting to the
railroads of this district against their
action and asking that they grant the
same rate as the eastern roads, and
are sending copies of their resolutions
to tho heads of the railroads.
The Medford city council and chain
her of commerce, as well as those of
Ashland and other southern Oregon
cities are asked to pass resolutions at
their next meeting.
During the past week the Trlgonia
