A party of f-v.ir well known Medford people met with an unfortunate acci dent Sunday night when the Chevrolet car of Miss Kloauor McQuiston, book keeper of the dates Auto company. I and sister of Mrs. Kobeil I!:yle, was driven off the highway in the Siski you3 and turned turtle. Miss McQuiston and her mother. Mrs. Josephine McQuiston, are at the Sacred Heart hospital, the former with a badly cut hand and her mother with n dislocated right shoulder and numer ous cuts ami bruises. Miss Mamie Hamm who also was In the auto when it went off the highway and over turned was badly shaken up, and the fourth member of the party, A. P. Walker, the choir leader and vocal teacher, happened to be outside the car and thus escaped injury. The car, which was owned by Miss McQuiston is n total wreck. The quartet left the city in the evening for a ride up the Sisklyous and had proceeded as fur as 1 i.J miles this side of Hilt when ther decided to turn around and come home. Miss McQuiston was driving and during her maneuvering to turn around. Mr. Walker got out of the car to direct the turning. In some way the car went off the highway ami down the mountain ;m feet where it overturned and stopped Miss McQuiston and her mother were pinned beneath tbo car, the mother be neath the back door which had to he broken away to release Iter, and the daughter was- pinned between the windshield and the steering gear. William Mclnlyro of Medford, who was enroute home from ICtna Mills, Calif., happened to come along right after the accident occurred and he and Mr. Walker extricated tho women and "al lied them up to the highway, and ine party tben Hurried to Mcilford and lo tlie hospital in Mr. Mclntyrc's car, whe.ro Dr. Steams administered to (heir injuries. .Miss .McQuiston was very weak from loss of blond as artery had been severed in the second finger of her right hand. The patients today were reported an in no danger. Tho accident was fortunnto In that (he desc ending car overturned only 30 feet from the highway and did not go on down the steep mountain side.
