"It Ik aliHurd to tnlk about war between Jiipnn nnd the ITnited Stateft., hhvh the Yomluvi Shlnibun, "but tMi sll!y rumors,- un Iohs nt op pint nt their sources may one day lcmneya reality. It, therefore, IrtlitHWrs both Japan and America to tftt their best so uiat all possibilities of war may be prevented. There are ,two Ways to reach this objective One 1h . the limitation of armaments and other is a diplomatic understand ing. So long an the relations between Tapan and America remain strained as at present, a satisfactory restora tion of friend slip between Japan and China and a renewal of the Anfjlo Jupaneso allinnce cannot be expected. "People talk about the curtailment of warship building by Japnn and the United States as a means of avert ing the possible clash between the tw"o countries. While this is no doubt true, they seem to lose sight of the fact that the removal of fort fications on the Pneific islands is as Important in lessening the chances of hostilities as the limilaton of naval strength. "If Amerca decides on the inde pendence of the Philippines, and re moves' the warlike defences there, the defenses of Guam, Hawaii and on the Pacific coast would be useless. Since some Americans may be inclined to doubt Japan's disinterestedness, it is advisable that a special agreement should bfc Concluded between the two countries n the matter. ,lf this is dotiej all chances of war. between them will be reduced to a minimum." AUSTIN HOTEL !S ;i SOLD FOR $7000 ASHLAND, July 2 Pursuant to foreclosure started Juno 1(1, against Jessq Wlnburn and the Ashland Devel opment corporation, the Austin Hotel was taken over this morning hy D. PerozKi, Mrs. Camilla Owen and Mrs. Minnie Parker, following nri agree ment reached yesterday in which the defendants wero paid $70(10 for the combined hotel Interests and property immediately In the rear of the Hotel Austin, with a fifty foot frontage on First, and Oak streets, it was learned today from Hriggs and flrlggs, attor neys for D. Perozzl and company. A. H. Pracht, former manager of the fSouthern Pacific depot hotel, Is tem poraVy liianager of the. hotel, taking the jilac of L. A: Whitehead. OUTLINE PLANS FDR The Young Peoples' Christian "Worker's Hand met at the first Meth odist church Thursday for their week ly meeting. A short business meeting was held first, presided over by (-ash Woods, the president of the. organiza tion. Mrs.1 Pierce'n team will go to "Wagner Creek Sunday .afternoon to hold a fiertlce, 'meeting at t2:30 at the Presbyterian church. Mildred Pridge's team hold a service at the county hospital meeting at the .I:iin street JlethodfsV ch'ureh; south, nt' 2:!t0. The -weekly meeting next Thursday will be held -at' the Christian church nt 8 o'cloclc'.'Mnslead of 7:30. After the business meeting Mrs. Pierce was called to the chair to conduct the de votional service. Part of the service was in the form of a testimony meet ing. The young people told of their Christian experience and how and when they had been converted. The majority had been converted within the last two years and that impressed t h ose p rose n t with the n ecess it y of putting on a program that will reach tho unchristian young people of that age in our community since that is fc .ho time they are most susceptitblc to Christian influence. The Chris tian Workers' Pa ml is trying to do that and we need the support of the Christian young people of Medford. This organization is not a union of the young peoples' societies, but any voting people who are members of orthodox churches and Christians are eligible to membership.
