To many American girls life is often a heavy drag in consequence of illness, und every mother should heed the first manifestations, such as cramps, back aches, headaches und nervousness as Mrs. Hendrick did for her daughter, and give Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound a fair trial. For over forty years this old-fashioned root and herb medicine has been relieving women of just such troubles. Write Lydia K. Pinkham Medicine Co., Lynn, Mass., about your health. 300000OOC00CX50O00C The Oakland Sensible Six This 4 l-1mrMpimi'r, light sl. ryllnilcr car kIcs from tH to twrnt) -Inur inlli'M to out gal lon nf Kiisnlliii' anil nvrniKfs from right to tvrlv t IumimuuI IllllCM (O 1)1 It' M-t i'f til'i'N. November. That the Her! Cross should be continued In .Medford goes without huvIiik but that It should be continued along the lines that It hus been conducted during the past twelve months is iiilte another matter. It has been suggested several times to those In charge of this organization that they publish a statement of their past year's work showing somewhat In detail their receipts, exjieriilltures, ex pense of administration, etc., together with a report of their accomplishments tint for some reason nr nlher Hint, lu not qulto clear, this has never been uone. surely this Is a reasonable re quest, those lu charge will not deny that the public who furnished the money should be entitled to know" how it was spent and there should be no reason whatever why they should not have this Information. Harly lu April or thereabouts the directors of the Medlord chapter ot tho Hed Cross appointed a committee consisting of Kev.. D. E. Millard, Ver non Vawter, T. K. Daniels, Judge Glen O. Taylor and inyseir, acting as chair man; and requested them to make a survey of the past year's work and suggest a line of work for the future. We were given a financial slatement mado out by tho executive secretary which, though far from being complete nevertheless gave some figures which wero at least suriirisiiiir. t not ulnr. tllng. This report showed olio employe drawing a salary of 125 nor nmiiih one drawing $100 per month, another drawing ou per month anil tho Na Ho mil Headquarters at WuHhinirinn n C. drawing SIM nor month. Auhlnml paid a mini 1 1 part of ono of these salaries and probably some of the re mittance to national headquarters. In addition to the above there wero Items of rent, heat, light, telonlione. tele graph, taxlcab and janitor servlco; all in niierai amounts. A total of these figures will show that In round flguros It was necessary for the people of Medford to contribute at the very least -iuu a month, or S 100 a week hofore there would be one almrln ilnllni- nvnii. ablo to purchase anything that the ex- sorvieo man and his family, or anv other worthy case, could eat, drink or wear. This committee secured Infm-miiilon from Ashland and Klamath Kalis and found that Ashland has iio unlni v iiui runt, light, janitor servlco, etc., and never has had, yot they havo managed to accomplish a irroat deal of work that Is truly commendable, Klamath I'alls Is a full chanter Ihn Medford and Klamath Falls compares favorably with Medrord In size and ac tivitx. A knowledge of that country would lead ono to bellevo that they would liuve even moro calls for aid than Medrord would have. Their sal ary llHt consists of ono secretary who spends part of her tlmo at the work at a salary of $20 per month and tho total or their other expense was loss than J5 por month for the year. This committee mado a report to the hoard of directors of tho Hod Cross which has never been published and as this report was made in good faith by responsible people utter an Investiga tion Involving considerable work It ought to be fair to ask the Hed Cross at this time to publish It. Why all this secrecy about an organ ization that everyone Is Interested in? The people or Medrord are generous In their charity ami will respond llhorully to a call for riinds for tho Hed Cross if they can havo confidence that the money is well spent. Thoso In charge of the Hed Cross havo a grave respon sibility, not tho least of which is to retain tho confidence of tho public upon whom they must depend for sup port to carry on this great work and this organization above all others should never lay itself liable to charges of Inefficiency and extrav agance. Hespectfully, gkohuh t. colli xs. Juno 2Sth. The Interest in the Dempscy-Cnrpen-tier fight next Saturday continues strong locally, but there Is little wagering on the result, as the Peinp sey adherents balk at giving tho pre vailing odds of three to one.
