A noted vocal feature on Sunday was the boys and girls Sun shine chorus of 300 voices. It will be noted that the Chautau qua season this year is extended over a longer period than usual, being de void of the hustle and bustle Incident To the customary ten-day stereotyped lycoum bureau schedule. In other, words, there will be less "plate mat ter" and more-diversion, hero and t'here being dutes minus any specific program features, although-a rarity of :entcrtummont afforded is essentially Chautauqua in its scope, oven if supr plied under separate auspices, An instance of this variance will bo the appearance'here Tuesdny evening, July 7, of the Minneapolis all-stnr Elk Minstrel and Cllee Club, nt the Chau tauqua auditorium, under usplces of Ashland, Lodge No, 944. Tho Elks are somewhat chary In sponsoring public entertainments, but in this instance the talent is recruited from the ranks if the big fraterity, consequently its merits will pass muster and a liberal patronage will be extended. ' In addition to the Normal school now In session here, an Oregon con ference of Bpworth League Institutes Is hooked for Ashland, the dates ex tending from July 18 to 24. ASHLAND, June 27. (Special.) On next Monday the great Jackson coun ty parade and celebration will take place at Ashland. It looks as though everybody who can ride or walk will be there, either as spectators or par ticipants in the events. The comtnit-l tees are getting everything ready for the big crowds. It will be wise for as many as pos sible to bring their dinners with them, as the restaurants and lunch stands will be rushed to capacity. It Is sug gested that stools and boxes be brought to Bit upon while the parade is forming and passing by, as it is estimated that it will take an hour and a hulf for the parade to pass a given point. "ce It 18 'n motion. The crowd Is asked to spread Itself out along the main line of March, so there will he no unnecessary crowding on a few blocks. The parade will undoubtedly be the most popular feature as those in charge have offered so many liberal cash prizes that the competition will be keen. Mr. Jesse Wlnburn has an nounced another cash prize for the musical features. In addition to the $f0 offered for the snappiest bund, he will give $25 in cash for most unique musical feature. This means that any kind of instrument or Instruments can be used, from a fife to a grand piano. Four or more musicians will be re quired in any band thut competes for this prize. .'.'''', The stunts in the parade will alone be well worth seeing. Muny will com pete and take part In this feature that will make everybody laugh. The committee has put the admis sion charge to the big wrestling match between Thye and Hund at a dollar to all parts of the house, except a few seats at the ringside. This is about half the price usually asked for stan dard wrestling match such as this will be. The rrayors of each city and town in the county and their families will be gtven complimentary tickets for ringside seats. The ball game at the high school grounds In the afternoon will follow the wrestling match, and will give the crowd a fine chance to root for their favorites. The Elks teams from Med- ford and Ashland are so evenly match ed that the game promises to be close- while the ball game Is in progress will supply nil the thrills thut are good for you. These two aviutors are so during in their iierformanees that their repu tations extend all up and down the coast aud well over into states further east. Of course- the fireworks display at night will furnish the spectaculur fea tures of the occasion. It will be a display such as few people have seen surpassed. The llitt Fireworks Co., I which will handle this part of the cele-' bration, say they have some mighty big surprises in store, and thousands will say "Oh, isn't that magnificent!" when things begin to go off. Patriotic sieeches of ten minutes each will be delivered by a number of well known Jackson county orators in Lithla park while the wrestling match is on. This will entertain those who are not interested In sporting contests. Altogether the Jackson county folks are going to show the rest of the state what they are capable of doing when they really get going. Mrs. Chas.
