POE SIX MEDPOUD MAIL TrRTTNT!, fFlT)FOT?Dt OKEfiONV THURSDAY. . JTTXE ; 9, : 1Q21 Bulgin's Reply to In the .Medford Mail Tribune, Samr day. June 4 th. 1921. THVUSTIAX SCIKXC K NOT IN'DK- l'KXDKXT TIUXKJXfi." "Dear Sir: I see in your extended article in the Saturday Mall Tribune, mojt of which is old matter, and bears the earmarks of the tame old stereotype Christian Science hash dished up for breakfast, dinner and supper, and served the same way ciich time. 1st. There is very little independ ent thought or departure from Ma Kddy's teachings as1 laid down forty years ago. Why do you Christian Scientists crucify your Intellect In such a maimer why don't you de part In forty years from this storco tpe, conKloniarated, disjointed, in coherent mnBS of stuff and Rive ua some up-to-date, real independent thinking? I'll tell you why! You are not allowed to. I have propound ed thirty questions and published them abroad asking for an answer. They are not catch questions either. Why don't you answer my catechism? 1 can tell you why Mrs. Kddy'H teachings will not allow you to flay "yes" to some of these questions. and you don't dare to say no,' you know what class it would put you in, the moment you did. 2nd. Von make the attack cvory tfme Christian Science writes an ar ticle, and publishes the same, or de livers a leeturo In the community where the church of lod is at work. and are making an attack upon the orthordox church. You did It in an insidious manner, claiming your right to live as a church carrying the name Christian, wearing the badge of the Cross and Crown, then deny the per sonality of (lod, tho Dolly of Jesus, Water Daptlsin, and the Communion of Bread and Wlno, all of which our Bible commands us to do, and none of this you do. Then everywhere you promulgate your doctrine, it is uu at tack upon the orthordox church of our Jesus Christ, nnd for that reason I propose to fight you, nnd fight In the open as long as (ind gives me breath. 3rd. I want to call your atten tion to the fact that not once in your lengthy article of four columns In a dally newspaper do you exalt ChrlHt and give my Master the credit as Divine (lod for healing your bodies, or effecting a euro, but n dozen times In your nrtlcln you speak of the benediction of healing thorugli Christian Science, aud you spoalc of Science and Health with Key to Scrip tures doing it all, hut we Christians, when we go to ChrlHt with our sick bodies, as we oftou do, and through prayer td Jeau3 as Divine God, and we get healed as we often do, we don't glvo soma man or woman who wijoto a book, or stole a manuscript the credit, but we thank our dear Lord Chi'lsf who is not an Influence or ft principal, 'but Absolute Deity we thank Him. ' . 4th, .' I notice your statomont still claiming that Mrs. Kddy by search ing tho Scriptures, discovered Mind Healing and wroto Christian Science with Key to the ScrlpturoH. I must again Sir, as a student of history nnd with positive facts within my reach with which to judge. I must deny your statement nnd Inform you nguln that Mrs. Eddy didn't read very much Scripturo, but old man Quimby's manuscripts. And at your public li brary in every city of the United Stales, you can gut a file of McClures magaVlncs and get affidavits galore to prove that) she stole and copied those manuscripts. And court rec . ords. to thu' offuct that Mrs. Kddy's book la facsimile of thu Qulinby nian ' uscrlpts. Head McClures mngazlno 1907, February, March, April, May ' and June numbers, unci I'd like to see an attempted explanation of these charges. i 5th. Now again sir, YOl'It WON 1KRI Vh Ki:u:..SK. 1 see lu your nrtlclo personal testimony of howl 'you were healed by reading Mm.' Kddy's book. INow If that Is so, olth er she la of tho devil, or else she is a Rreater person than Clod. You ro- ' member sir, that (he Scripturo said: In later days Satan should have the power to work miracles and deceive 3 tha very elect. It Iho Devil over had power, or haB power today, to In flict disease, then nothing could bo more logical for that old deceiver to have power to cure disease, and the Ulblo plainly states that he wns to have miraculous power, and many so- . railed cures of Christian Si lence, to ( my mind ure the works of IMo Devil, ; and my evidence for hollering this Is prophecy said there was Bitch a ; time coming, and second, ho would bo . the antl-Chrlst and deny that Jesus was Ood, which you Christian Sclen- , tlesls do, and that ho would seek to be worshipped ruther than Ood, and an you Christian Scientists don't give Jesus Christ as (lod tho glory, but . .' give It to Mrs. Kddy and Christian . Science, you exactly fill the bill. Then sir, I claim that if you wero cured by reading her book, ahc is really the Devil, or a more wonderful person "than Ood. " " oth. ront DKMX1TION OK GOD. You say from Mrs. Kddy's book, that Good Is a principal or an influence. Such statements as that , would make a theologian sick, and would kill a philosopher outright. God is not a principal, but Cod is a person. You don't seem to be utile to differentiate between God and His attributes. ' I think thirty min utes study in a good theological sem- . luary would bo a splendid thing for every one of you Eddyites. There yon would learn a good definition of God, one that would hold water with the Hible Theologian philosophy and good j lior.io sense. lt mo give you a defl-: nltlon Ot God that would hold wutr. Andrew J. Graham "god is a KPiKw ixrixri'i:, ktkii SAh ANf VNCHAXUKAHI.K. Hlf- dkixg'or attkibutk is wis DOM, I'OWICII, HOrd.NKSS, Jl'STICK GOOD.VKSS AXD THl'TH." .Vow that will hold water, you can put it to am test you wiBh, and it will stand thi test. When you rob God of his per sonality and make an Influence oi principal out of Him, you destroy love and you destroy prayer. No one can fall In love with a principal or can pray to a principal, and you can't su prayers to an influence. A whlrlwlni or a tornado is an Influence, but yoi cun't love or pray to a thing like that. I'd advise you, Mr. Graham, tc take a two year's course at Mr Moody's Institute or a few montlu- at least at a good seminary and thui take a coures of logic at an ordinary high school. 7th. TDK IIKITT OF JKSI S YOI HAVK DKXIKD. Yo-r. dealing witl. the question of Jesus tiie Christ is ex acily what I had expected and I havi been telling my audiences all aloi.f the road that you did deny Ills Deity Am glad to have It over your own signature, and that too o( an officlu' member of the Christian Scieuco lec tureship. Now this couples you up with Jews und Unitarians, and Web Bier's Dictionary says a Unitarian h an infidel. When you go to Web ster's Unabridged Dictionary for a definition of Unltarianlsm, he says In fidel. Now I have more respect foi an orthudox Jew than I have for you and your whole cult, for they art looking for a Messiah to come, bill you sail under the banner of Chris tianity, and dismantle my Lord and rob Him of His Deity, when Ho re turned back to glory after His sac rificial work. God says: Lot all the angels worship Him. You are a splendid hand at pro vorting the Scriptures when you use the text In Matthew 19th, whore Je sus suys: There Is one Good aud that Is God, and you try to make out by I Mil Bystem of yours of tttralnliig at a gnat and swallowing a camel, that here Jesus denied that Ho was God. This is oxactly what he did not do, but He did call the young ruler out, on His Deity, nnd make him admit ills Deity before ho proceeded to an swer him. The Greek there reads Why do you ask mo, there is only one who truly fills (he bill, and that iw Jehovah. Do you moan to say that 1 am He! And then proceeded to tell Him that the time would come when He would see Him at tile right hand of Omnipotence. And you claim that Jesus did not claim to be God. This Is a very weak and sickening statement for any one posted in tho 'Illblo. "Ill call yon attention to some of His claims, aud we don't want you to dodge the inane, or play fast or loose with these eternal questions, but fuce living facts. JUKI'S SAID OF IIIMSKLF. 1 Ht. FATHER suld: My neloved Son, lot ull AngelB worship Him. T tli. Kesiirrectlou BnyB: "I have power to lay down and powor to take up. You say in your nrtlclo that Mrs. Kddy says "When Truth outcrH nuin's conscience he begins to feel his nt-one-ment with God. Applying this prlurlplu was what made Christ Je sus a supremely good mun," page 497." First. Thero Is no 'at-one-ment" or atonement without the Bhed blood of Jesus Clirlst, the wluilo plun ot salvation is based entirely upon the Blood atonement for "without the shedding of blood there is no romls blou." The truth did not enter tho" mind of Christ Jcbus for Ho said in John 11:0 "I nin the way, tho truth and the life." Therefore Christ JeBUs neded not to apply any principle to become a "supremely good mun" for He was God, Deity, manifest III the flesh. You say Christian Sclenro heals -sauio as Jesus. I deny that, and If you cun take and comprehend an ar gument, take this. Jesus never i healed through the mind. , Jesus healed Instantly. Jesus claimed to be God. Jesus never lost a case. Jesus never charged. Jesus never built. Jesus never preached sermons on healing the body. Jesus always claimed to heal by the Almlghtyiiesa of God, that Ho claimed to heal and taught us to give God the Glory. Hut you sir, say in your first column: "1 have alluded to my own healing, out of the deepest grat'liulo to TDK DISCOVKKKK AM) I'OL'NDKK. of Christian science." Shame, on yon, that ni ord did not got tha Glory, but Mar B. docs. "The same principle that beats headache aluo purifies the Leper .-alses the Dead." Now If that Is so jliow me one Leper or one dead man or admit that the headache was cur ed by mind over matter and get well tself or was not real but imaginary or you benl a Leper and raise a dead man or shut up until you can demon strate. You. say its hard to Bee how s doctor can be a Christian and at ty same time employ remedies to heal And then in the next breath say tbiE !a no arrangement of the doctor's. OH Well since Jesus spat on the ground and made clay ointment and mnointed tho blind man's eves, and Hezeklnh and Islah endorsed fig poul tice for bolls and God blessed and :ured them. A dog eats grass, and a :ut eats catnip when sick. Then Goo pity you when you get less sense than a dog or a cat put together. 1 would say a good Burgeon and doctor Is nearer a Christian who uses God Slven means and heals tho sick than you Eddyites when by malpractice and criminal negligence you kill .the 'houaamtu you uro killing. I full to find in thirty years a single case ol real healing by Christian Science other than such cases as would tend to cure themselves. Show mo one lasg eye you bavo taken out and put n a good one, and Bet of false teeth taken out and grew a new set, or cork 'eg you havo taken off and given a ood one, and a dead man raised from the dead. Now demonstrate whore I can see. Jesus' mission you say was teach ng and example. No fiir, that was jeeondnry. Jesus' mission was a lie deemer and Saviour from Bin. He was not a way shower. But He came to dlo fur sinners. It Is a pity God let Him dlo, If He was a teacher and example. Then the old Testament Is Jiio continuous lie, if He was not to die. For It was not tho lite of the Lamb, Heifer or White I'lgeon, but the blood In every caae. For It, the blood alone that muUes an atonement for the soul. Kither get off the ground ns a Christian and drop the world from your book and cult, or slop tho Unitarian hash, Jesus wat an example and teacher only. He was God. Now lastly Mr. Graham, I contend, and I have always contended that no logical mind or orthorodx Christian can believe Mary Baker Kddy and God's Word at tho same tiino. When two witnesses or two documents or two books come into court, claiming to have the same origin, especially if that origin claims to be from God. we would expect to find Borne points of agreement and not absolute contra dictory throughout, and that contra diction too, on the vltul points. Now here are two books coming Into court, one written by a woman who claims to havo received her Inspira tion directly from God. She says the wine hand that held tho pen, that wroto tho book of lalab, is the same hand thai held tho pen that wrote Science and Health with Key to Scriptures, I claim that this is a blasphemous lie, and I'm going to show some reasons why. If one' of these books came from God. and Holy men wrote as thoy wero moved by tho Holy Spirit, and that book Is tho Bible, I'll hold on to God's book and let Mary Kddy's sacrilegious lie go. iNow sir, for your benefit, and nil tho world, 1 want you to revlow In parallel column the following text from these two books. 1st.
