of Winston Churchill's novel, "The
Inside of the Cup," will open tomorrow
at tho Page theatre. On the occa
slop of Its . premiere recently nt the
Criterion theater In New York, Ada

On my right at the premiere of "The
Inside of the Cup" sat a trig, blue
eyed commuter. On my left was
man from Paris, dark, thin-faced,
wearing a perfectly tailored suit cov
cred by a mink-lined overcoat. Oppo

suburban housewife and across seas

and duplicity, has kept his threat to
smirch the name his father would not
allow the pretty little shopgirl to bear.
There Is a poignant scene in which
Allison Parr Roes lo the heartbroken
desperate girl and asks. "Will you be
my sister?" This eimt seen. In. a
great picture teaches a lesson in the
democracy of souls.
"The Kentuckians" Is Filled With
Landmarks
Kentucky landmarks abound in the
production of "The Kentuckians," fea
turing Monte lllue, which will be the
feature film at the Itialto theatre the
last four days of this week, starting
today.
Many of the scenes were made in
and around llig Stone Cap. Vu., which
has gone down in history as the home
of John Fox. Jr. Several hundred
mountaineers with a motley collection
of old-lime guns and clothes took pari
in the feud scenes.
From lllg Stone Cap the company
went to Frankfort, Ky and through
the courtesy of Coventor Kdwln P.
Morrow obtained the cooperation of
the chamber of commerce and state
officials. The new Kentucky state
capitol was the center or many Inter
esting scenes.
Monte lllue. In the role of Poone
Slallard. a mountaineer who goes to
'the legislature lo emancipate his ioo
pie, does some of the best work of his
career. Others iu the east include
Miami Allen, as leading woman. Frank

APPI.HCATE. May It'.. On Satur
day evening tho delegation that had
been to Medford to prove our right lo
the cup, earned at the Talent field
meet, came home shouting "Hurrah
for Applegate. The neighborhood
jumped lo the conclusion that they
had been awarded the cup. But It
i was a mistake. It was simply the
effervescence of- the indomitable Ap
plegate spirit. The Athletic associa
lion had voted not to consider any
evidence further ill regard to award
ing the cup, and to accept the report
of the committee as final. That re
port leaves us one point behind the
winning team.
The Judges awarded us enough
points to win the meet, but an error
of the scorekeeper caused us to lose
llie cup.
However we have some things to
our credit. Our girls basketball team
were never defeated in a game with
another high school. Their baseball
team has never been defeated and
claims the championship for the coon
ty. The boys' basket bull team, was
defeated only once, by two points
when one of its best players was sick
in the hospital.
Our relationship, with the other
schools has been most pleasant, and
we are happy In looking back over a
year of clean sport.
For a program next Saturday the
boys are preparing a minstrel show
and the girls, a short pluy. The pro
ceeds will be' applied to athletic ex
penses. Come out and enjoy, n good
program and encourage tho boys and
girls.

have a large attendance from all parts
of Applegute valley. If the people of
the valley will unite their efforts they
can maintain a high school that will
bo a credit to the community and an

The prevailing topic with the Apple
gnte women is the pest of caterpillars
which descended, upon the valley a
few days ago. A lino of offensive and
defensive warfare has been declared
against them. The following nre a
