Yesterday with a maximum temper
ature of 8G was the holiest day of the
year so far.' This figure was reached
at 4:30 p. m., and from then on the
temperature gradually dropiied until
the minimum, 4:1, was reached at 5 a.
' m. today. The night was so warm that
few covers were needed by most peo

n telegram Thursday from Hollywood,
t'al., signed by Carroll McMillan and
his .daughter. Miss Gertrude, stating
that Mrs. McMillan hud died there at
dM a. in., May 12th. The McMillan
family have many friends In' Medford
and vicinity, having come here about
nine years ago- and resided for 1ft
months or two years on their orchard,
the" Merry Mac, at the end of Kings
lITghway, which they still own. Mrs.
McMillan had been an Invalid for the
past year and one-half, and her demise
is deplored by her local friends.

"Jack" Pulton, one of the best
know cattlemen of southern Oregon
died at tho Mercy hospital in Roseburg
lust Sunday, May 8. He was taken to
tho Institution the previous Monday,
suffering from peritonitis. , An opera
tion on Tuesday failed to arrest, ttie
progress of the disease and he contin
ued to sink until Sunday, when death
relieved him of his sufferings. He is
survived by his wife, one daughter,
Mrs. Guy Jacobs, of Ashland, and two
brothers, James E. Pelton of Fort
Klamath, and Horace Pelton of Gold
