Apples in many parts of the valley
are now ready for the calyx Hpray, es
pecially Spitz and .ImiathanH. .New
towns generally will he ready the last
of the week or the first of next week.
Spraying fhould start when 80 or 90
per cent of the petals are off. The
calyx cup tin apples closes very iiuick
ly after the petals fall, and in order
to protect apples from the codling
moth in the calyx end it is necessary
that this spray be applied before the
calyx. Use a driving spray under high
pressure and be sure that all part of
the trees are sprayed thoroughly. The
standard arsenate strength for this
application is one pound of powder
ed or two pounds of paste to fifty gal
lons, liime and sulphur at the rate t-f
one to thirty of the liquid or three
pounds of the dry to fifty gallons of
water may he used for scab. Where
green aphis are present nicotine sul
phate may be added to the lime and
sulphur combination at the rate of n
pint and a half to a 200-gallon tank.
Where lime and sulphur is not used
and nlcottine is desired use. two gal-

FRAME UNIFORM RULES
CHICAGO, April 28. A meeting of
tho general chairman of the railroad
shop crafts will bo held here Monday
and Tuesday to draw up a uniform set
of rules which the unions will advo
cate In place of tho national agree
ments, ordered abrogated by the rail
road labor board, effective July 1. Tho
ulcs will bo presented to the railroads
by negotiating committees represent
ing the crafts on each road. The rules
will be offered as a basis for all nego
tlatlons with tho railroads, various
changes being made to meet local con
ditions.
