Larlutore has been selected to go to Crater Lake National park and take charge of the hotel there. The securing of his services will settle satisfactorily the question of the hotel management at this most popular resort of Oregon. Mr. Lari- more will be under the direction of A. L. Parkhurst Mr. Lurlmore Is well known over the ccuntry as a successful manager. His work at The Oregon in Portland, after the failure of Wright & Dickin son, was such thut be turned the tide of busluesH from a distinct loss, at the time he took it, to a substantial gain when he left it, to take charge of the housing proposition at the Standlfer Ship Yards under the U. S. shipping board. Here he had charge of the big Liberty hotel and thirty bungalows for a period of three years. .Mr. Larimore has ulways been very active In all civic matters, having been one of the successful speakers on all Liberty loan and Salvation Army drives during the period of the wur and in 1917 ho was the president of the Hose Festival association and through big untiring efforts with noth ing but opposition, and . very little money at the hands of the festival hoard, succeeded in giving Portland a lestlval that year second to none in its history. 1'he trareler and tourist will be assured that all that Is necessary in the way of hospitable and courteous treatment and service will be dealt out for his comfort and pleasure. We bellevo "Larry" will put Cruter Lake on the map. It is certain he has the best wishes of the entire hotel fra ternity. Crater Lake Lodgo will 'officially open July 1st for the 192L season and probably close September 30. Tho shipyard hotel will close down In time for "Larry" to transport his crow direct to Crater Lake. His chef J. C. Fritz, formerly with the Arling ton and University clubs, has a record for good culinary work and the entire crew Is loyal. At the Rialto Tho picture or pictures, "Trumpet Island," now showing ut the Ilialto theatre, is a masterpiece in film pro ductlon. Even the titles are different from those in other pictures. They are allegorical and tell the story of the notion In a Btrunge manner. This adds to the beauty of an already urtlstlc story In which contrast is the chief aim. Industry, poverty, wealth, love, debauchery, simplicity, vim and the spectacular aro blended and woven into the fabric of a human life. Uouvurneur Morris is responsible for the story and It measures up to his highest efficiency. Comedy, thrills and symbolism are blended in such manner as to make the production the clilef d'oeuvre of motion picture art. At the Page Fun with a punch, comedy with strong dramatic action that's what Hex lleach gives picture fans In hlB new release, "Going Some," which opened a two days engagement ut the Pago 'theatre yesterday, founded on his own famous stage and book buc- cesB. And Clyde Cook In his second mo- ion picture here, "Don't Tickle," dis plays not only Chaplin's wistful earn estness and expressiveness, but alBO a gift of contortlontsm that made him several knots faster than Chaplin, lu lled himself up like a frog, wriggled like a snake and hopped like a grass hopper, displaying u hundred times he activity of the ordinary Janitor he was supposed to represent. There Is to be one spontaneous movement In this town absolutely devoid of "drives," "quotas," and even the semblance of a campaign. This refers to the Soldier .Memorial, a tribute of respect and af fection which has already passed be yond the blueprint stage, Inasmuch as the contract has already been let, following the approval and acceptance by a committee of a specific design for an enduring memorial. Moreover, no equlsitlons will be made upon Italian marble or New England granite in the construction of this monument, for the Southern Oregon Granite Co., on or before May 30, is under contract. to de liver and place In position this memor ial shaft, which will be constructed of native material as quarried from, local surrounding hills. The specific con tract cost will be $700. As before men tioned, the donations are to be volun tary ones, without solicitation. Local banks will receive contributions, in fact the date set for acceptance of same was April 4, and It is confidently hoped that by this time the required amount has been fully, if not "over subscribed." Any excess over the amount needed to apply on the monu ment proper will be diverted to care of the memorial plot, consequently the ideal thing to do in the premises is to make this fund at least un even thou sand dollars, and we certainly cannot afford to do less. The site of the memorial will prob ably be In Ashland cemetery, though many prefer a secluded nook In the city parks us a more appropriate spot, viewed from the standpoint of its be ing more accessible to the public gaze, The date of unveiling will be on Me morial day, Monday, May 30, a date in the calendar which will be .more than ordinarily observed locally. The tribute will be one to the soldiers of all wars in which the nation has been engaged. If particular stress is laid upon honoring the memory of the young fellows who made the supreme sacrifice during the lute war, it is due to the circumstance that the bereave ment is well nigh a general one to those of the present duy and genera tion. Time may have healed the scars of former conflicts, but toduy even those who have not met with a person al loss, feel prompted to pay tho trib ute of respect and to sympathize with and comfort those who mourn. In other words, the universal patriotic equation will be supplemented by the sympathetic one as individually ex pressed. Hoth military and civic or ganizations will vie one with another in giving the monument project mater ial and moral support, nnd ut a recent session the city council voted fifty dollars to the fund. Over a year ago, at public exercises In this city, the nearest of kin of the boys of Ashland and vicinity who per ished in the world war, were presented with honorary certificates at the in stance of the French government: At that time the list was as follows: Earl D. Ileeson, Talent; Walter Hay Davis; Arthur M. Decker, 1st Co. Eng., C. A C; Willis nines, Co. A, 28th Inf.; Algio V. Loomls, 1st Co. Eng., C. A. C; Arthur Hay Morgan, 5th .Marines; Walter Anderson Phillips; Orlie H Powers, Talent; Archibald Smith; Horatio Sanford, Jr.; Herbert Guy Spencer, Hat. E, 05th C. A. C; Clem ent Summers. Jr.; Philip R. Trefren; honest G. Wolcott; James Merle Fountain. This constituted the honor roll at that time, the motto displayed at the exercises being "Dulce et dcor- ura est pro nutria mori." Since this anniversary, two more well known Ashland boys' names have been added to the list, those of Ralph Fraley, who lost his life due to the tragic accident Incident to artillery target practice at Camp Lewis lust summer, and John Heston Jones, of Hatlery F, 09th C. A C, who passed away In this city Inst week. It is a coincidence that three separ ate Ashluud families each had four of its members in service during the world war, und each lost one of its sons due to war or from causes inci dent thereto. A. C. Spencer's sons were Bernard K., James M., Herbert Guy, and Donald M. Herbert, more familiarly known as "Guy," died In France. The father is a veteran of the civil war, the wife and mother be ing also a veteran still on tho active list In the ranks of the Woman's Re lief corps. Mr. Spencer was the Initial contributor to the Memorial Monu ment fund. Tho Wolcott family was lepresented by Horatio, the father, and sons Forrest. Guy and Phil. For est died nt Fort Stevens. The fnther ind two sons are all members of the National Guard organization. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Fr.iley's four hoys were Floyd, Milton, Karl, and Ralph, the .itter of whom lost his life due to ac cident as heretofore noted. Floyd served in a semi-military capacity with he Y. M. C. A and Is still overseas in central Europe as a "Y" worker. EAGLE HIT EAGLETS By A. C. Howl.tt Among the business callers during the week not mentioned in my inst was (ius peek of Ijike Creek. He seemed to be having some success in h undertaking, ns ho claimed to have sold light around 12.000 worth of stock in Ashland. Mr. Holser of Grants Pass was also a dinner guest at the same time Wed nesday. Luke Ryan, on of tho capitalists of Jackson county, formerly a mer mercantile business in Medford, came chant of Jacksonville and later in the out on the Medford-Eagle Point stage on tiis way up to his ranch on the mouth 'of Big Butte near McLeod. Mrs. Fred Duttoll was here visiting her father, S. II. Harnish about the middle of the week. W. D. Steidman and Vernon Dews of Medford were, among the diners at the Sunnyside Wednesday. Mr. Burdic for some time visited out of town, buying hogs ;ind cattle, but since then has been in terested in the oil fields of California. Our town council has been utiliz ing the lumber taken off tho floor if th footbridge for repairing oi.r side walks. Our Janitor of the school, Mr. Schlebljl, performed the task. Mr. and Mrs. Kelso of Derby were business cabers Thursday. -Mrs. Roy Ashpole, wife of one l our popular hardware merchants, who has been confined to her bed in Medford at the home of her mother- in-law. nnd husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Ashpole, has so fur recovered as to lie aide to come home and as sist In doing the house work. LEADING AUTHORITIES NOW SHOW JUST WHAT TANLAC REALLY IS Physiological Action of Principal Ingredients of Celebrated Medicine On the Human System Is Ex plained. SUPREMACY CLAIMS WELL SUPPORTED Many ' of the Medical Ele ments Have Been Known and Used Sincei Civiliza tion First Began. Tanlac, the celebrated medicine, which has been ucconinlishintf such remurkiiblu results throughout this country and Canada, in composed of the most beneficial roots and herbs known to science. The formula is purely ethical and complies with all National and tSnte Pure Food and Drug Ijiws. Altogether, there are ten InfredirntH in Tanluc, each of which is of recognized therapeutic value. Many of these ingredients have bean individually known and ued Bince civilization first began, and Home of them have been used and prescribed by leading physicians everywhere, but until they were brought together in proper proportion and association, as in the Tanlac for mula, humanity had not heretofore realized their full value and effect. In referring to one of the more im portant ingredients of Tanlac, the Kn cyeloped ia Ilri 1 1 a n lea says : "It has been tse miurce of the must valuable tonic medicines that have ever been discovered." In referring to others of the general tonic drugs contained in Tanlac, the i:tth Kdition of Potter's Therapeutics, a standard medical U'M book, states that "They impart gene ral tone and strength to the entire system, including all organs and tis sues." There are certain other elements in Tanlac which, because of their influ ence upon the appetite, digestion, as i ation :.nd elimination, improve tho nutrition and vital activity of the tissues and more important organs of the body, and produce that state of general tonicity which is called Health. ' The United States 1-Mspensatory makes the following comment re garding another ingredient: "It may be used in oil cases of pure debility of the digestive organs or where a general tonic impression is required. Dyspepsia, atonic gout, hysteria and intermittent fever are among the many affections in which it ntus proven useful. " , There are certain other Ingredients described In the Dispensaotry and in other standard medical text books as having a beneficial action upon the organs of secretion, whose proper functioning results in the purification of the blood streams passing through them. In this manner, objectionable, and poisonous ingredients of the blood are removed and the entire sys tem invigorated and Vitalized. Tanlac was designed primarily for the correction of disorders of tho stomach liver and bowels. At Ihe same time, however. It is a powerul reconstructive tonic and body builder for it naturally ' fallows that any medicine that brings about proper as similation of the waste products must, therefore, have a far-reaching and most beneficial effect upon the entire system. Although Tan lac's claims for su premacy are abundantly supported by the world's leading authorities, it is the people themselves who have really made Tanlac what it Is. .Mil lions upon millions have used it with gratifying, results, and have told other millions what it has done for them. That is why Tanlac has become the real sensation of the drug trade in this country and Canada, and that is also why it is having the largest sale of any medicine of its kind in the world today. Ad v.
