Open a bank account for YOUR wife in our bank. Many a man has been saved from business disaster by the money his wife has quietly tucked away to her credit in the bank and which she was able to "produce" at the critical moment. Try it. . We invite YOUR Banking Business Jackson County Bank Established 1888 Member Federal Reserve "The Kid" Big Success "The Kid", which played to cnof nious crowds yesterday seems to set tle the question as to who ia the greatest of all film comedians. It ts Charles Chaplin. Discriminating play goers long have suspected. that Chap lin's unrivaled hold upon the imagina tion and affection of the multitudes was not due so much to Ills buffoonery as to his real acting ability. In "The Kid," his new six-act First National comedy, Chaplin does some of the fin est, most delicately shaded acting any one ever saw and for every slapstick laugh in it there is a classically ex quisite scene. Ills riotous action is irresistible. Little Jackie Coogan is one of the best child actors ever seen on a Medford screen. Women wept just to see him. a foundling discovered by Chaplin alongside an ash can in an alley. "The Kid" Is two-fisted. Its right glove is packed with tho pearls of tears, its left with the horseshoe of laughter. There are six acts that seem like one. Six nets that are funnier than the work of any other human be ing. Six acts that are sadder and simpler than anything else In pictures. Six acts thnt will atone for anything tho motion pictures have ever done. Other attractions on the program are, "Sweetheart Days," Page Maga zine and Janice Iiutler on tho big Wurlltzer organ. Ople Read Story Scores Hit After many pictures of society in trigues it is with a sense of relief that one sees "The Jucklins," George Med ford's 1!ew picture, which opened to capacity house at tho Rialto theatre yesterday. This is a good, big clean picture. It deals with good, old-fashioned people, tells a good old-fashioned love story, and contains a million and one little bits or great human interest. Monte Blue plays the role of Bill Hawes, the lunky school teacher, Charles Ogle is Urn Jucklin, Mabel Julienne Scott is Guinea Jucklin, his daughter and the big cast includes Fannie Mldgley, Zell Covington, Winter Hall, J. M. Dumont. Clarence Burton and a lone list ol favorites. BUDAPEST, April 7. (By Associ ated Press.) Reports that former Em peror Charles has re-entered Switzer land have been received here and his arrival in thtt country Is said by Count Albert Apponyi, former Hungar ian premier as closing the incident arising from the ill-starred attempt of Charles to reinstate himself as king of Hungary. In conversation with the Associated Press correspondent yes terday the count expressed the opinion that Charles was probably duped by a colossal hoax the work of foreigners for the purpose of promoting some de sign not understood here. "This regrettable Incident, which Is over," he continued, "at least proved the stability of the Hungarian state." German Empress Better DOOR.V, Holland. April 7. Former Empress Augusta Victoria of Germany who has been critically ill for several months, has had no new attacks of heart failure since Friday. Although she is very weak, her nights are re ported to be restful. Professor Kraus, who was called here from Berlin to attend the patient, has returned to the German capital, Interesting sIdcliKh'.d on the career of C. H. Owens, :n:i'HU-il at Suit I. alia City hist Saturday. In eunueclion with tho Bank of Jacksonville failure is shown In the following uitiele from the Corvallis Gazette Times uf last Tuesday: Corvallis and Benton county people have great interest in the story that C H. Owen is' being brought from Salt Lake City on a charge of aiding Wil liam II. Johnson, cashier and ex piesident of the defunct Hank of Jack sonville, to defraud that Institution of Jlil.uOO lor the reason that .Mr. Owen was a resident of Corvallis for at least six months two or three years ago and while here was noted for his free dom with money and his disposition Co he a royal, all-round good fellow. As a matter of general belief he was a poker player of no mean cali ber but not quite so good but that a number of expert poker artists in our community managed to relieve him of considerable of his ready coin. While here. Mr. Owen was a well dressed, rather cloancut looking fel low, who actually looked like ready coin and it was the understanding among friends that he was the noble scion of an illustrious and prosperous family, wus the happy recipient of the good graces and surplus coin of some one who had died, and stood a glorious chance of getting u whole lot more ol tho filthy lucre when a certain aunty should undertake to favor him by shuf fling oft this mortal coll. From Medford comes the account that Hanker Johnson is supposed to have sent .Mr. Owen at some time during his career at least $700 a week, and It may be that this was tho coin that Air. Owen had received from the "family" coffers, or advanced in the hope of the beloved aunty's death. At any rate, whllo here Mr. Owen bought the well-known George BroNvn plnce just north of the city, and in the course of activities bought or had a deal on for the Tom Dorgaii plnce up in tho Soap Creek country, and in some of these deals some of Banker Johnson'3 notes were floating around. The ins and outs of tho deals here are not sufficiently well known to give de tall, but it is known that even then there were those who wondered that the- Jacksonville bnnker should have notes around in tills manner.
