The condition of Miss I.iherta Gore,
who suffered a compound fracture of
the leg, a severely lacerated upper lip
and bruises when with her two sisters
she was knocked down and run over
hy an auto on the Pacific highway
a week ago Sunday evening took a
change for the worse yesterday and
now critical. Blood poisoning has
developed throughout her entire sys
tem, and up until that time her condi
tion had not been regarded as danger
ous. Miss Edith '.ore, who is suffer
ing with a fractured skull and whose
life hung by a thread for several days
while still very ill conlinues to show
improvement. Miss Jeanetto Gore's
injuries were minor ones. '

"After a period of several months
idleness the cement plant here resum
ed operation Friday," says the Gold
Hill News. "The plant which has re
ceived a thorough overhauling during
the winter opened up for this season's
run In perfect condition and with the
increasing amount of orders piling up
the outlook for a very heavy run is
very good. Financial conditions about
the town were beginning to tighten up
in a threatening manner due to the
lack of a payroll but another month
will relieve the local situation."

the Eugene merchants is being held
this week and has proven a big event
in the trade of Eugene for several
years. The merchants say It cost a
little effort on the part of their assocl
atlon to get it started but it has

published an interview on trees with
Colonel II. H. Sargent of Jacksonville
with the introduction stating that "he
is not only a distinguished soldier and
author, but he also Is a lover of trees."
The colonel closes the interview with
the following: "But let us como nearer
home. When'Emil Britt, the present
mayor of Jacksonville, was born, his
father, who was a lover of all kinds
of trees, celebrated the event by plant
ing a sequoia tree. It has grown into
a splendid specimen. It is now, at the
age of 58 years, nearly 100 feet high
and about 16 feet in circumference at
its base."
