Reports of flood conditions and l'lslns rivere which it was feared might cause wide spread damage were received here Iioni northern Idaho and eastern Washington towns today. At I'otlatch, Idaho, the North Pulouse river was said to have car ried out one (lam early today, and another dam with three to four mil l'on feet of logs was expected to 1 reak. At Palouse, Wash., below Potlatch, parts t f the town were under water and property had been removed from low ground in anticipation of the flood which would follow the break ins the Potlnteh dam. .lullielta and Sand Poiut, Idaho, also reported high water, hut with little damage. WAI.I.A WALLA. Wash., March IS. Waters in Mill creek and other streams of tile valley are falling fast and all danger of further damage is considered past. As the waters fall much damage is being disclosed and it is estimated that $100,000! will ct.nie a long way from covering the losses in this city. Bridge abutments havo been un dermined in tho city nnd several rull road bridges in the county have been badly weakened. Trains on tho Day ton branches of the O. r., nnd the N. P., are not running through be ciuiso a bridge across tho Touchet river on both lines hud been so badly' weakened as to make them unsafe. Tho flood waters of Mill creek broke out of the banks at a new p'.aco Thursday night when they ro30 rapidly following the second heavy downpour in the hills and inundated anothr section of the city flooding cellars and causing considerable dam age. Mayor Ben F. Hill and Street Com missioner Grove Cookerly are not tabulating tho damages to city prop erty and bulkheads which r ust be replaced and both stated today that they believed it would exceed the figures mentioned. Li MURDER M 1918 TACOMA, Mar. IS Claud W. Black man, a logger who has been working near Shelton, walked into the city po lice department last evening and an nounced that he killed his uncle. Beth el Blackmail, in Wood county, Texas, on October 22, 1918. A telegram received by Chief Harry Smith from A. Jolly, sheriff of the Texas county this morning verified tho confession. "Claud lilaekman is wanted in Wood county for murder of Bethel illacltman ' in 1918. Will come for him at once,". Sheriff Jolly said. I The logger promised today to return to Texas without extradition papers. MEETINGS GIVEN AT The First Christian church and their pastor, D. E. Millard are to conduct a ono week's evangelistic meeting be ginning Sunday, March 20th and clos ing Easier Sunday. Dr. O. J. Law, pastor of the Christian church of Grants Pass will be the speaker and Medford people will have the privilege I of hearing some great messages dur ing this short meeting. The music will be a special feature. The services will begin each even ing at 7:30 and closing at 9 p. m. The meeting will close with a great day on Easter Sunday. Dean D. C. Kellems of Eugene, Ore., has been secured to deliver three addresses on Easter Sunday. The Sunday school is work ing for an attendance of over 300 and it is expected the number present will far exceed that. Dr. Kellems will teach the big men's ciass which which will he a special event. Dr. Kellems will also deliver a sermon lecture at 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Subject to be announced later. The public is ex tended a hearty and urgent Invitation to attend these special meetings. Tickets $1.00. 307 Tho Ashland high school basketball team closed its season Wednesday night by defeating the Hoseburg team at Hoseburg 25 to 19. While offering no excuses for their defeat, tho News Review of Hoseburg, attributes it to tho close refereeiug of Coach Bolder of O. A. C, tho sickness of two of Boseburg's stars, and "horseshoe" bas kets by tho Ashland players. Bolder rol'eroed tho first of the Medford Ashland games, and raised such a howl of protest that he retired after the first gume. The Ashland girls de feated the Hoseburg girls 23 to 21. Bulgln, who is sched uled to hold a series of revival meet ings in this city next May, is now con ducting a revival meeting in Walla Walla, Wn and is tho storm center of a lively row and discussion. "The Bulletin," an evening newspaper, scor ed Bulgin's methods editorially, and this divided the town into two fac tions, with a fight on between the pul pit and the press. The Walla Walla meetings will be concluded this woek. Dr. J. F. Heddy, well known hero, is now interested in a highway contract in the state of California where he was the successful bidder for tho building of eight miles between Cedar vlllo and Alturas at a cost of $110,000. DeWitt was the driver of an auto that crashed into the rear of a car standing on tho road, that result ed in the death of Mis. Nona Jennings of this city. A total of 118, 000 residents of Washington and Alas ka have filed ; income tax returns, David J. Williams, collector of Inter nal revenuo for tho district announced today. The number of persons filing returns showed un increase over last year, bnt tho amount collected Is con siderably less, Mr. Williams said. Over $8,000,000 was received, mostly covering first quarterly payments. A part of the reduction is attributed to the ruling that a husband and wife, owning community property under the state law, may f II o separate returns where tho Income is more than $5000. An American immigration officer, two L'nitcd States soldiers and two liquor smugglers were injured in a battle on the Hio (irando river two miles fiom El Paso last night. The fight between the Americans and the smugglers lasted several hours, both sides firing at each other sporadically throughout tho, night. Fifty-seven quarts of whisky, aban doned by the smugglers, was dlscov eted at daylight. in, MEXICAN BANDIT, MEXICO CITY, Mar. IS. I'edro Za inoia, one of the most formidable ban dits on tho western coast of Mexico, is dead as a result nf wounds received in a recent battle with federal troops! near the town of .euisunila, state of Jalisco. The dead bandit was associated with various revolutionary factions for years, lie was also a lieutenant of Villa after which he joined Zapata but finally operated independently in the states of Jalisco, Michoacan and Co lituu. Last August ho raided the towns of Autlati and Quatlan. from which he carried olf a number of captives, among them being several Americans and several British subjects. It was said that sixteen girls carried off from Cjuatlau had committed suicide follow ing their capture by the bandit. Most of his prisoners were released volun tarily and when government troops pressed the pursuit of the bandit he released the rest after being promised immunity from arrest. lie announced he intended to follow peaceful pursuits, hut, unlike his for mer chieftain, Villa, he was not con tented with a peaceful life aud several days ago it was reported that ho was again heading a rebellion ami federal troops were sent against hint.
