H. bucket hall quintet will In vade outside territory when it will journey to Roscburff fur a tusmi with its old-time opponents, Roseburg hlBh, Friday and Saturday nights. It is generally believed that the home hoopers will have a stiff time main taining their clean slate against the Hosehurg squad, since the latter begin basketball practice at the start of the school year and invariably have a fast aggregation. This season the Itoseburg people consider their team unusually fast and Coach Kliim will take Captain Coleman, Russ Sher wood. "Dub" Watson, Prescott, Raughman and Jerry Young to hold up Med ford's side when the X-.vo schools clash. Interest in the Mm ford girls team is running higher than usual this year. According to Miss Shadall, manager and director of this season's sextet, over 25 girls have been reporting for the regular practices and from this turn-out one of the fastest teams the school has had, is being developed. Through the coaching of Charles King and diroction of Miss Shadall, the girls so far this year have a clean slate and will meet for the first time a strong team when they will travel to Itoseburg with the boys squad for a crack at the Rose burg girl hoopsters. The girls have been put through n hard week of practice, both in regu lar ity-outs and in gym classes and should give a good account of them solves Friday and Saturday. The gtrlH' squad' this season is composed of Sylvia Hukill, captain; Belie Flem mfug, Edith Campbell, Esther Ash craft, Ruby Mills, Arliene Rutlor, AJtu Knips, Murjorl Skeeters and Isobe! Stewart. FIFTHAVE.SMART TO THE EAST SIDE NEW YORK, Feb. Stealthy, but steady, advances by tradesmen, cover ing tx period of more than 20 years. have virtually broken the residential .excluslveness of Fifth avjnue, known the world over as the. home precinct of the Vanderbilts, Carnegies, Ilivii mans, Platts' Flicks and other weal thy families. One by one mansions, which housed international personages and gave to Fifth avenue much of its glitter and fame, are in new "exclusive" parts of the city. Real estate men, who have watched with interest this nKtcression jof trade, say that another decado will have wiped out the last bit of resi dential excluslveness In the avenue. The change in Fifth Avenue was re- fleeted In the. recent purchnse of property bordering the East River at Fifty-Kighth street by Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt, Sr., where she Intends to build a homo in a section known us Sutton Square. . This bit of property Is directly across from BIaokwH' Island, where a city prison is located and is almost underneath the Man hattan approach to the Qucensboro bridge. Real estate men expect that Mrs. Vanderbilt's migration to the East River will mean a new exclu slve district in a part of tho city where' near-slums existed before. Tho charges included murder, arson and manslaughter. The women' appeared quite as anx ious ns men to avoid service on the Juries. "I'm too neivous," was the plea cf one. Others pleaded Inability to leave housework, shopping, business, care of babies or sought to evade service on tho ground of their own Illness or that of mombers of their families. "I know one thing wo women will do," said one Jurywomnn after silting In tho court for a half-hour. "We will make the lawyers wear clean wigs and have better manners."
