easily holds first place in Farm Bu
reau work.
Farmers tho state over, are eaRcr to
learn of what Juckson county has
done. In tho I Aim and Benton coun
ty campaigns, they listened with the
keenest interest when the speakers
told of what their brother farmers
down here in Southern Oregon had
accomplished.
. With Jackson county as nn inspi
ration, Linn county lust week rolled
up a membership of 000 with the
yearly fee at $10. Benton county will
undoubtedly make as good an average
in the campaign that Is now on. Dur
ing the week beginning Monday, Feb
ruary 7, Jackson county must answer
the question: "Shall Jackson county
hold first place In . Farm Bureau
activities?" Jackson county can hold
that place in two ways. First, by a
tQO per cent membership; second, by
100 per cent achievement.
It has been admitted, that the
farmer should organize.
It has been declared that the
farmer can-organize.
It has now been -demonstrated be
yond a doubt that tho farmer has per
fected a' highly successful organiza
tion. Every Jackson county farmer Is
keenly awake to the.'- fact thnt the
'hour has struck, that we must nil
unselfishly join hands, to help our
selves, It is true, but in a larger and
grander way to help tho men and the
women, the boys and the girls, living
on farms right here in our own state,
who do not njoy the wonderful ad-
vantago that are ours here In Jack
son county.. So a 100 per cent mem
bership is expected. and when on Sat
urday, February 12, the final report
Is In, it is hoped there will be not
ono Jackson county farmer who must
say, "Yes, I believe the farmer should
organize, but my name is not there,
and my influence will not bo exerted
for tho betterment of the farm and
the farm home."
' .Leadership has become a habit with
Jackson county and on the day of the
100 per cent membership, which will
bo 100 per cent achievement, the
Jackson County Farm Bureau will
start a program looking away into
the future, a program that- must place
as easily In tho front rank, Jackson
County Farm Bureau first.
SHOW PROMISES
TO BE BEST EVER
The premier theatrit-ul event of the
year In .the Kogue mvrr valley will
be the annual intnstt 1 nh;v of the
Medford Kl!;s lodge to hold at the
Page theater, February "I and 22.
The personnel of tho troupe consists
of 50 of the best known members of
tho lodge, with George T. Collins as
interlocutor.
The end men will be Jerry Jerome,
Larry Mann, Vernon Vawter, and
'a ul McDonald. Jerome is well known
locally as a blackface" comedian, and
Mann was an attraction with Bice
clubs during his college days, and for
some months was on the Pantagea
circuit.
Tho soloists comprise Fletcher
Fish, William Vnwter. Herbert Al
ford, and others rendering tho latest
popular songs. Tho chorus numbers
Walter Antle, Carl Tengwald, I'aul
Leonard. Mark Leonard, George
Gates, Victor Dnnielson, and others
too numerous to mention.
The second part will consist of a
number of vaudeville acts by home
folks with a special stage setting by
Tom Swein, who Is supervising th

Elks from all over southern Ore
gon will be in attendance at the show,
which promises, to - surpass all pro
vlous efforts albng this line,

man, were in Medford the first of the
week visiting J. H. Dcnniaon, ot the
Medford Auto Co., the local agents.
They were In the Bulclt stock car that
one month ago today completed the re.

The committee in charge of tho
Mueoln banquet which will bo held
at the Medford Hotel Saturday even
ing at eight o'clock, report that the
tickets aro being disposed of rapidly,
and all persons who are planning on
attending tho banquet are urged to
secure their tickets nt once, ns when
tho allotted amount of tickets, 250,
are disposed of, no more will be sold.
, .The program that has been arranged-
for the event this year is an
exceptionally good ono and every re
publican in Jackson and nearby coum
tles should arrange to be in attendance.-

disposed of by tho committee of
which Glenn Taylor is tho chairman
Tho dog tax situation in Jackson
county was further complicated this
morning by the announcement from
tho county clerk's office that the sher
iff balked on killing do km, whose only
crime was that their masters were too
tight-fisted to pay the tax. Under the
law, tho sheriff Is supposed to exe
cute all canines without a license, but
as it is ugainst his scruples towards
dumb brutes there is no recourse.
According to tho county figures,
there are 1700 dogs in Jackson county
and of this number about 500 masters
have remitted, leaving 1200 untaxed
and unlicensed. Most of the 500 with
in the Inw, came In with a rush when
It was announced that there would be
a massacre of canines unless tho tax
was paid. Tho county has about de
cided to let tho matter drop, unless
the sheriff has a change of heart.
Most of the opposition to tho dbg
tax comes from the country, though
a few in the towns are not wildly ex.
Ited about it. The farmers argue
that their dogs arc as much of n ne
cessity on tho farm as a plow, driv
ing tho cows and chasing the pigs out
of tho garden. They maintain thnt
the burden of the dog tux should fall
on tho city dog, that does nothing but
base cats nnd rido on the running
boards of Fords, and bark . at the
moon.- A large number of farmers
all over tho state slapped their foot
down with a bung nt tho dog tax
from tho start.
In connection with the present situ
ation locally, the legislature at Salem
threatens to take some action towards
the repeal or modification of tho law
before the close of tho session.
