manifested In the boxing matches to
be held at Gold Hil tomorrow night
under the auspices of the Gold Hill
boxing commission. The main boxing
event will be between George Eagles
and Red Campbell with a wrestling
match between Ralph Hand, the pride
of Gold Hill, and Hill Anderson, a
wrestler with considerable of a reputa
tion in Canada. Owing to the high
prices paid the 'participants there will
be but two numbers on the bill, but the
commission guarantees that the fans
will get their money's worth. A large
number of funs from Jacksonville, Ash
land and this city are planning on at

stage a smoker in Grants Pass Feb.

Duffy, who is eight pounds lighter, but

Following a talk at Grants Pass
Tuesday night by Professor F. C. Rel-
nier, superintendent of the Southern
Oregon experiment station at Talent,
tho directors of the Grants Pass cham
ber of commerce sent telegrams to the
Josephine county delegation in the
state legislature urging support of in
creased appropriations for the station.
Prof. Reinicr told of the accomplish
ments and needs of the station and of
the many denrands made upon it. The
directors gave unanimous approval to
tho work.

forenoon's rain and the prospects of
more rain to muddy them up again.
District Highway Engineer Hodgmnn
said this morning that there was no
trouble with the Pacific highway tu
tho south, as the road Is being kept
! clear of snow over the Slskiyous by
the state highway department, and
that there have been few complaints.
However the mountain highway on
this side is icy caused by the alternate
melting and freezing, and all autos
negotiating the Slskiyous should be
equipped with chains. The highway to
the north is in fair condition except
this side of Smith hill, which is still
very rough with considerable mud.

rectors of tho Medford Chamber of
Commerce" yesterday afternoon a
number of citizens were called in con
sultation on legislative matters re
ferred to the board by the Jackson
county delegation nt Salem.
Before going on record as either
favoring or being opposed to text
books, this wns referred to the school
board and the bills introduced reliev
ing the sheriff and clerk of respon
sibility for money deposited in the
Jacksonville. Hank were passed to the
county authorities for their opinion.
Resolutions were adopted showing
the appreciation of southern Oregon
to the Multnomah and Imperial
Hotels of Portland for the splendid
publicity being given to Crater Lake.
Telegrams were directed to be sent
to tho Oregon senators and represen
tatives at Washington, urging them to
use their influence with Chief Mar
vin of the Weather Bureau to assure
the Ttogue River Valley of the serv
ices of an observer during the frost
period.
