Amorican Agricultural Chemical common and preferred, were niuuug the . exceptions,, declining 2 and 3 points-respectively, in connection witti reports of prospective financing. Money tendencies became firmer in the last hour and such leaders as Mexican Petroleum, Crucible and Ash phalt led to a reaction of 1 to 3 points. The closing was irregular. Regardless of unfavorable indus trial conditions, bull pools were ac tive again in the stock market today. Stoels, equipments, shippings and motors were most favored. Sales ap proximated 450,000 shares'. (Wall Street quotations not sent cut today, because of. wiro troubles in California and Rocky Mountain le gions). ' V 1 NEW YORK, Jan. 24. There was a perceptible broadening-of the market at higher prices during the, morning, despite iltermittent offerings of shorts. Equipments were especially prominent, Pressed Steel Car common rising 7 points and the preferred 4M Railway Steel Spring and Crucible, Lackawanna, Republic Steel, Sloss Sheffield Steels wore strong, as. well as Baldwin Locomotive, General Elec tric, Studebaker and allied issues. Oils rallied easily and leathers, tobaccos, sngar and paper issues representing further gains. Delaware, Lackawanna and Western extended its gain to ten points, other strong rails including Reading, Southern and Northern Pa cific and Pittsburg and West Virginia. Exchange on London was firm hut call loans held at last week's prevailing rate of 7 per cent. A loud rumbling of thunder was heard Wednesday in this locality. The weather prophets of this community predict a heavy snowstorm. The "Blue Lddge Galloping Goose" left on a business trip for Medford this week. ,s Bert Harr is constructing a rail fence around his new barn to keep it from escaping. A slight touch, of the "flu" has been experienced by Wood Jeetor of Steam boat. Knox McCoy has been hauling hay on Ills pack horses to his farm in the mountains. ' Mr. Robinson, superintendent of the Blue Ledgo mine, was seen motoring to the valley. Several friends and schoolmates of Oscar Collings, a Soldier boy of this district who gave his life in France, attended his funeral services at the Perl funoral homo Sunday afternoon, and the burial which took place at Jacksonville. Hester Knutzcn made a business trip to Medford last week. 131)1 Singlor and two nephews, Wal ter and Hugh S'ngler, packed their be longings in an old carpet bag, climbed into their tin lizzie, and hit the roau for Portland. Jim Winningham was seen passing up the road last Sunday. EAGLE POINT EAGLETS By A. O. HowWtt ' A. L. Whitney of Elk creek and Edgar Wight, one of the leading Jewel crs of Medford, came in and spent the night at the Sunnyside Saturduy even ine and they both remained until Mon day morning. Mr. Wight spent Sunday in the agate field north of our town QihorinB abates. He brought a fine lot of ages he had already )olished and some of them were not only beauties but were remarkable as curios, one of them being about the size of a half dollar with a complete and perfect letter D almost an inch in diameter Chris Natwick and son Carlyle and 11 Somerson were lodgers at the Sunny side Saturday night am! Sherman Woolev and family and Mrs. Wooley' sister. 'Mr. Koontz of Butte Falls were here for supper Saturday evening. 1TR1S WARBLES Mrs. Dr. Holt was a passenger on the stage. She had been over to Mod ford to superintend the arrangement of a house the doctor has rented. She said they expected to move to Medford in a week or ten davs. The dance Saturday night was fairly well attended and those who were there reported having bail n vow pleasant time. There were quite a number or those who attended came in about 3 o'clock a. m. for beds and late breakfast. Jdhn Foster, one of the mechanics who is working for the Rogue Riverl Lanai company, spent Sunday with tis, and in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Derby and three children called for dinner. Mr. Derby was out in the In terest of the Medford Auto company. H. C. Meacliam of Trail also spent Saturday and Sunday night with us and Edgar Wight, Mr. Meacliam, Ber nard Smith of Medford, a little boy and your correspondent went to Med ford on the 7:15 a. m. stage Monday and among the first things I did after my arrival was to pay my compliments to the office force of the Mail Tribune and found the whole bunch as busy as bees in a sugar barrel, hardly had time to pass the time of day and conse quently happy. After my visit to the Mull Tribune office and attending to a little business in the. shopping lino I began to look around to see who I could see that I knew In the hustling city of Medford, and among the first I met was one of our old townsmen. John Ashpole, who for several years has been a resident of Medford, and while in conversation with him who should come along but John Severedge one of . the prominent stockmen of years ago, he being a brother-in-law of the late George Isaacs, and then I kept meeting people from all around Eagle Point, among whom were Frank Cas ter, Ed Dutton, Sherman Wooley, Charley Clark, C. C. Beale, Sam Har uish, who is kept in Medford on ac count of his hand, which he is having treated for blood poison; Mrs. Art Thomas, formerly of this place but now of Central Point, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Peyton, formerly of the station named after him but now of Medford., and last but not least, our old editor of the Democratic Times, and he had to givo me a little tally on my con tinuous writing at my advanced age and told how he enjoyed reading the Eaglets, and referred to the time when he was publishing a weekly pa per in Jacksonville some forty yoars ago or more when I used to write the Untie Creek items for him. In fact it was a "great pleasure to meet some of these old war horses of the early days "when wo wore young," for now number whom I have mentioned have the sign of age marked on their heads by their gray locks, and it is possible that we all have met for the last time on earth. J. P. Coin (Agate Jack), who has been employed at the Price camp' on tile Agate-Trail highway, came in to his old quarters Monday at the Sunny sme. ' J. W. Berrian, superintendent of the fish hatchery has commenced to build a room where ho intends to care for the fish eggs until they can be taken to the Butto Falls hatchery to be cared for until they are ready to be trans ferred to the different streams. Wesley Sutler came In with a load of stove wood Tuesday morning. Mrs. A. G. Morgan, a sister of O. M Goss of Butte Falls, from Washington D. C, came out on the stage Tuesday morning on her way to visit her brother. Lawrence Conger, R. A. Widomnn and Wig Jacks went to Medford to meet the officials of the Fruit Dealers association, as I understand that that was the time those who had shipped their fruit through the association were to now the result of their ship ments. J. Wattenberg and Ira Hensley were business callers Tuesday morning. A. R. M'acdouald and wife who have been visiting in Eugene for several days returned home Sunday J. W. Berrian, John Allen, the new road supervisor in the Butte Falls road district, Pete Betts and J. W. Hutchin son who came in and spent Monday night at the .Sunnyside, Mr. Carver and son who are working on the fish hatchery building and Milton Newman were here for dinner Tuesday. Alvln Mathews. Eagle Point, and A C. opencer 'of Butte Falls, were here on business' Tuesday Gradon Chlldretli and wife who have been visiting Mrs.-Chlldreth's parents, Mr. and Mrs J. Geppert near Butte Falls returned home Tuesday. They were accompanied by Mrs. Childreth's ister, Mrs. Josio Carey and children of Klamath Fain J. W. Cameron of Derby, had quite a lot of goods set up by the mail car rier Tuesday by G. W. Brown & Sons. A. H. Dougherty, salesman for Ra leigh's goods, was with us Tuesday night and was canvassing the tow Wednesday morning. ews (Furnished by me JacKson County Abstract i;o.) Marriage Licenses Albert C.
