Unitdc SUtes authorities here fear that -American Interests will be excluded from the great Djambrf oil fleldB in' the Dutch East Indies If a bill Introduced in the Dutch parliament be1 adopted. The measure proposes to give the con cession to these fields to a subsidiary of the Batavia Oil company. . The territory to be included iii the con cession is described as the most, val uable 'pelroleum ground in the Dutch East Indies. ' The field has long been the' scene of commercial rivalry between Dutch English und American oil groups. Americans here say that the only way in which American interests could obtain representation there wuold be for the Ducth government to permit them to subscribe to the stock of the. proposed handling com pany to be fomred to handle the In this holding company, the Dutch East Indian government and tho Ba tavia company would, by provisions of the bill, be joint stockholders, the government sharing largely In the profits. The government, however, will have a niujorlty on the board of directors. According to the Amsterdam Hand- elsblad, the preferred shares, giving :i right to vote as to the control, but not as to the direct management, which will be in the hands of the Batvia company, will be mostly und- government contrlo, but .in order li placate foreign, particularly Ameri can interests, a certain proportion of what are known ns the "R" shares may be sold to foreigners with the consent of the government. - OTfFiOX, M KIW, JANUARY 1921 -"J 1 FFAR HMIANn, iorei l un.i nwLu..Wi Washington - I inn n in iii 1 WILL oHUI Uul txjmsTWSsi i). mm wmm I I j&Z "r?w2 14 II uJsm 1 s iS' BCien1 2. i s -2r. r J; m hew -mm- I aiiaiiia r-r n ri f A recent dispatch stated that the parliament of the Dutch Kant ir.ciiuf? had under consideration a motion op posing: the granting- by the Dutch government of an exclusive concen Hion t othe D jam ha oil fields with out the consent of the people of the colony.
