Amber is said to have been formed in the very early stages of the earth's history, hut Dr. Gal ppe is convinced the micro-organisms could only have been imprisoned in the amber while it was in course of formation. As soon as these organisms were set free from their prison thev arc said to have manifested verv evident signs of life and, when carefully cul tivated, developed great activity. The organisms are of course very elemen tary, but this fact detracts little from the marvel that thev nre living sur vivals from a period far earlier than that of prehistoric man, .
