You want a man with ideals, but ideals tempered will practical horse sense, rationally adjusted not to the world we dream about, but the world we Jive in. .Realizing that America enjoys the priveleges of a world power, you real ize also that it must accept the obligations ot one. Ot these obligations one of the most obvious is part icipation in an international movement to organize the world for peace. You want a man in the "White House who knows what he is talking about. Jii your opinion, a man who has lived in Europe and worked with Europeans who hais lived in the Orient and worked with Orientals, who gets his knowl edge of the world not from books and atlases but from first hand experience, will be in a better position to decide for eign policies wisely than the man who prides himself upon a provincialism entirely surrounded by ignorance. .Finally, the idea or having a business ma:i m alshing- ton appeals to you. The problems of the immediate fu ture are tho problems of reconstruction. The problems of reconstruction are primarily the problems of organization and administration, not political problems, but essen tially business ones. A biusiness man has never occupied tho White House. You believe the time has come to put one there. But you haven't decided who vou want for President. You merely know you are on the right track, and a month from now will vote for the right man. Misguided as the overall movement is in its immediate aim, it may serve a useful purpose in organizing public sentiment against the present mad race for profits, and convincing the profiteem they are skating on thin ice.
