Squirrels, :' .... 'Every person, firm, copartnershlh, compaiiy'or corporation residing on, owning," leasing, occupying, possess ing or having charge ot or dominion oyer any land, building, wharf or dock infested, with digger ground squirrels in Jackson County, Oregon is hereby notified tc begin at once to effectively ' exterminate and' destroy all Buch digger ground squirrels. The following poison for mixing and instructions' for use'1 thereof is the method most expedient and effec tive to be used for the extermination and destruction of such ground squir rels and is hereby recommended, to- wit,. alkaloid - strychnine used on either Verier Or wheat, barley prefer red, mixed according to the following formula and manner, to-wit: Barley, clean grain,. 16 quarts. Strychnine (powdered alkaloid) 1 ounce, . Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) l'ounce, . Thin starch paste, 3,-4 pint, , Heavy corn syrup, 1-4 pint, . Glycerine, 1 tablespoon Saccharine, 1-10. ' - This material should bo mixed as follows: Mix thoroughly 1 ounce of powdered strychnine (alkaloid) an,d 1 ounce of common baiting soda. Sift this into one-half pint of thi nhot paste and stir to a smc'oth creamy mass. (The starch paste is made by dissolving 1 heaping tablespoonful of dry gloBS starch In a little cold water, which Is then added to three-foiirthc pint of boiling water. Boil and stir constantly until a clear, thin paste is formed.) Add one-fourth pint of heavy corn syrup and one tablespocn ful of glycerine and stir thoroughly. Add l-l u ounce of saccharine and Stir thoroughly, Pour this mixture , over 16' quarts' of clean barley and mix well so that each grain is coated. . One quart ' of the poisoned grain mixod as aforesaid is sufficient for 40 Cr 50 baits and this quantity scat tered along squirrel trails or on clean hard places on- the surface about the holes will not endanger stock.
