Young's Garage COUNTY OIL The great tomorrow! That was i the theme of the cUiing address at the oil mass meeting at the I'aue the atre last night given by Professor Vinlng ofWBhlajtd und it struck the' keynote of the occasion. Hogue River 1 valley has had ita gold tomorrow, its : Orchard land tomorrow .now will it i have Its oil tomorrow? The answer is up to the people of Medford and the ltogue Hiver valley. As Mayor C. E, Gates explained In the- opening speech this oil proposi ti tn is not for the man who wants to get rich iuick or wants something for nothing. Neither is it for tho man who can't afford to take a chance and "Ihm't you dure sauce me" MARY PICKFORD .coming; soon in "The Hoodlum" Its even n little better thai "I biddy Long;-Iegs' REMEMBER IT'S A HOME PRODUCT ASK FOR PEERLESS erless Bakery and Lunch Room ; Start the New Year right by V taking home a box " of Our Candy; - The Shasta DEC ME1VFOKT) MAIH TIvlHUNR, WILL BE WITHIN 12 L T risk a few hundred dollars without jeopardizing his meal ticket. It h primarily for those who believe in the Hliio Hiver valley, who believi there fa u good chance of finding oil In the valley, and who ure willing to do their'ahare in determining one and for all whether there is oil, oi merely oily talk. "I have heard oil tulk ever sinco 1 tiimo hero eight years ago" said thi (mayor, "now let's Bet about and sliov tms talk up. If we strike on, well und good, if wo don't strike oil well and good again, we can devotu our energies and money in other di rections. 'But let's go nt this l 111 n i right and go to' the bottom. To knov oil is lrtro will mean millions to us to know It isn't here will be worth every cent we noed to put In to find out." II. C. Garnett gave ono of' hi characteristically amusing speeches. admitting he had never even ridden thru an oil country unless the Itogue I itlver valley was one, and didn't pre I tend to know anything about oil, but j be had enough faith in the valley and tho Trlgonla company to put in his share and thought other public spir ited citizens of the valley sho'uld do so. "This Is A gambling chaneu" said Shorty, "and It's worth taking chance. If we strike oil and sotneoie conies to me and asks to got in on the ground floor,1 t wc'a't he In. No 'sir. Now is the time-to gut in, and ;the vultures on the fence can stay out." Probably the most Interesting par I of the' meeting was provided by At torney P. ,T. Neff, who read letters from tho two' oil geologists giving their offfciul reports on the oil posst buttles In the valley. The letter from P. Ci Dressel follows: (Jeologlst's Kcport To Whom It May Concern: I, tho undersigned, have made geological examination of the Tri goniu Oil company's lease holdings in Juckson county, Oregon, and other localities in Jackson county. 1 wish to state that In my opinion the Trl gonla company has made a very ex cellent selection as to drilling site, and if you drill on the seleeted locu tion you .have every chance in the world to got a larso producer. The anticlinal structure is of sufficient size to warrant me to predict a gush er well. -, . .. '-' Thei geological inscription of' the sedimentary beds left intact In ! this section of Jackson county Is of the Cretaclous and Tertiary age, the fes- siltfcrous classification being the Trlgonla' front which ' yolir company takes its name. In passing over your holdings there Is un anticline: on the face of a hill above the Chudwick ranch ot which the lif-'ntliwesterly side i has partly eroded away which will give to the layman, as well as geologist an ideal picture ef a plunging anticlinal struc ture, which is of sufficient .size to warrant an opinion as a large petro. leum structural receptable built by nature's hands at the time the Sis kiyou, uplift occurred. . 1 have made numerous qualitative tests of the shales anil sandstones and find them to carry paraffin and petroleum residue. A theory that lias been advanced by some people that the petroleum substances have been burned out of tho formation. wish to contradict Uieso opinions, from. the standpoint that all of the hydrocarbons are Intact, an can be seen In the , coal-bearing strata thru- out the country where the ancient sedimentary beds are found. I have had the pleasure . of accompanying Air. E. W. UUegran cf Medford, Ore., und checking up-the geological sur vey mado by Mr. N. L. Josey of Cali fornia, and find the structural clips, angles and strikes to be in exact-con formity with his geological map of tho Trlgonla Oil company's holdings and I consider Mr. Josey's geological report very conservative. 1 basemy opinion of this dlBtrtct on tho ground that I have been a geological student for the last . twenty years and have visited practically all of the oil fields of the United States and Mexico, and have cperated in some of the fields, To the officers of the Trlgonla com pany I give my permlsstan to use my report in any way they may seo fit. J truly believe that Jackson county will be producing oil inside of the next twelve months. Kespectfully'yoMrs, ' y P. C. DRKSSKL. "Mr. Xeff also read an equally op timistic report from the well known I oil geologist, N. j. Josey, and a j hearty boost for tho project from ' Co'Ionel K. E. Kelly who Is now busy In the oil fields of Wichita Falls, ; Texas. i The audience was attentive thru jout and It was apparent the program had impressed everyone present that !tho chances of striking oil In tho val- ,ley are really excellent and the pro ject worthy of enthusiastic support.
