The same evening there was a dance at Trail and quite a. number of our young men . and ladies took advantage of the oppor tunity and went up and the next morning when I had got thru noting who was. here I Hound that William ' Welch of Talent and Miss Hirda Ab-. bott of Butte Falls, had just come in for breakfast and that Wm. Coy. Frank Haxelton. Jap Pitzer and M-ra. Wm. Hazelton had come in for beds and breakfast. ' They reported that they had a very pleasant time at the dance and that there was a good at tendance. Our Sunday school and C. E. soci ety, was not as well attended Sun day morning and evening was not as well attended as they have been. Last Sunday, owing to several causes the principal one being a lack of Interest on the 'part of the parents, and a desire on the part of the young folks between the ages of 15 and 20 years especially, if they can, take a ride out in the country or go to some pleasure resort. But we are hoping that as the summer advances toward fall and the weather becomes cooler that the interest will revive and our classes will be filled again. Harry Clngcade and wife of Sacra mento, Cal., son of our townsman David Clngcade. arrived here Sunday and was- smiling on ljis friends Mon day In our town. Ho is here visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clng cado, and brothers Thomas aud Charles. The family of our new banker, H. J. Devancy, arrived last Monday and they have gone to housekeeping in the home ho purchased of J. V. Mc liuyre, and his friends are congratu lating them on their arrival. Mrs. W. G. Knighton who has been in ono of the hospitals in Medford for the past week or more, returned home Monday to remain for a few days. s , Wm. Bealo of Butte Falls, was a passenger on Tuesday's stage. Mrs. Win. Dolman of Lake Creek, was hero Tuesday morulas on busi ness. Mrs. Hart was transacting business here Tuesday and so was W. C. But ler. Mr. and Mrs. Silas, Mrs. W. W. Parker, Rev. and Mrs. Day of Butte Falls, wero here Tuesday morning on their way to Medford. Rev. Day tells me that the young man of whom 1 made mention a short time ago as coming out from Uio east to take charge of the work for the Presbyter ians in Butto Falls, has arrived and taken charge of the work. J. C. Brown, manager of the Earl Fruit company of Medford, was here for dinner Tuesday and so was F. S. Elliott, vice president of the S. P. railway aud A. J. Witchel. chief engi neer of S. P. & S. railway and George W. Xeilson and Charles Vaugh. head section foreman of the P. & E. Mr. Xeilson is the manager of the P. & E. railroad, of Medford, and the four men had been riding over the road on an inspection tour. Mrs. Thomas Jones of Portland, was also here and remained over night taking the Butte Falls stage for Butte Falls to visit her sister, Mrs. Carl Coblelgh. Frank Hazelton and his slster-ln-law. Mrs. Ethel Hazelton, Al Clements, Thom as Farlow and Wm. Nickel of Lake Creek, and Jack Florey, were also here for dinner Tuesday. Joe Hoskins passed thru here Tuesday with a team on his way to Applegate to take another load of his mill up to Indian creek. A. J. Florey. our veteran postmas ter, who has been confined to his home the most of the time for months,, has gone to Jacksonville to visit his son, Chauncey, our county. clerk. Mrs. Wm. Miss Katie Johnson who went to Butte Falls a few days ago, returned Tuesday to Medford. J. S. Quackenbush who owns a farm on the north edge of Big Stickey, was in town Tuesday and so was Geo. Giveni, one of our hustling farmers and stockmen. W. H. Mar Is the superintendent of the gang of men who are distribut ing squirrel poison, called Tuesday evening at 7:45 for supper and then had to go to Rogue River (town) that night. John Grieve, the pioneer road builder of Prospect, came this Wed nesday morning on the Butte Falls stage and so did H. E. Weed , of Derby. Joyce Von der Hellen, daughter of our hardware merchant, has a fawn that was caught by some of the men on tho Crater Lake highway works. Mr. and Mrs. i.. P. Chandler of Grants Pass, passed thru here this morning on their way to the McAllis ter soda springs above here. They had, a trailer attached to the buggy arranged 30 that they could eat, drink and sleep In it a nice arrange ment., . , '.. H. M. Henderson of Oshkosh, Wis., J. J. Skinner, the electric light man of the Cal.-Ore. power company, Claud Gaines of Medford, and Mr. Ottoman, also of Medford, were here for dinner today. J. S. Vestal -who owns a farm on Reese creek, was a business caller today.
