I am a widow 80 years old," There Is nothing bet ter, for bronchial, grip and similar lingering coughs an'd'colds that hang on.'- Just, fine for children for croup and whooping cough. Contains no ; opiates. For sale by Medford Pharmacy; ' i ' , . Notice ".- ' ' I will not be responsible for any debts contracted by my wife, Enola Hamilton, from this date; June 25th, 1919. I. L. HAMILTON, r ' i ' .83 EVENTUALLY, WHY NOT NOW? GERaLVNY promised to deliver her battleships.', i$ho sunk them. ' liennany promised to return tho French battle flags. She. burned tliein. (terniany prom ised officially to accept tho tonus of tho treaty in Fast Prussia, Posen and Silesia, while imofficialy she pledged horsolf to violate them. Small woiulor the now Uerniaii preiniov remarked the other day Germany's .salvation de pends not upon world revolution, but a revolution in (ie.v niany's moral consciousness. Instead of this statement representing any change in the German viewpoint it must be taken in the light of subsequent events, to bo either an error in transmission, or an isolated expression of a lonely philosopher enjoying the luxurv of hearing himself talk. ' And now the Crown Prince has escaped from Holland to his Fatherland and it. is rumored from Washington that his distinguished sire is on the way. This report taken with the above record, and the general elusiveness of the delegation to sign the treaty, strongly indicates that the time has come, to end conversation, order the troops for ward, and settle the affair in Berlin. Everyone is tired of war. The troops want to got home. Invasion of Germany will entail considerable sac rifice in time, money and possibly lives, lint unless tho reports from tho other side are entirely erroneous, there is only one way to compel Germany to keep her word, and that, is by force. Moreover with the Crown Prince and possibly the Kaiser back in the fold again, their capture and safe confinement, would be worth considerable fric tion and annovanee. ' It is apparent now that, the German change in government, was a change in form not in spirit. The treachery and bad faith under the Kaiser is continued without mitigation, under Ebert. Either the true spirit, of the German people has not been allowed expression,' as yet, or the German people, themselves, are without moral sense, and must be treated accordingly. It's a melancholy spectacle. It is far from a simple problem. With Europe in its present eatilepsy, the entire aspect of things may change over night. But from the information we have, and judging the situation as it ap pears, there would seem to lie only one sensible course, accept the violation of the armistice, order the advance, and' back up future instructions . with the point of a bayonet. .' From all indications this must' be the course eventual ly. Why not shorten the agony and do it now. II.. rarsons, owner oi mucresi orcnarns hear Medford, and is well known in the city where she and family usual ly spend -the summer. To the Kilitor: . . As lor the seeivtary-clerk in the officii of superintendent it is going to bo a moiv iH'imotnicnl plan as well as a far more efficient plan. This plan or a more extensive pl'in of the saute nature is being used in the most progressive school systems. To employ u competent' secretary in the officii of superintendent the ensuing year would call for an expenditure of at least $7"i. in fart, other schooN the sine of Medford are paving us high as $S," or S'.HI. The services of clerk under the old plan would call for a minimum of $."00 as suggested bv the present clerk. He savs that he has consumed otie-lhii'd of his time on this work this year. Thus it is readily seen that the old plan would call for an expenditure of approxi mately $1,'J0I as a minimum, while the new plan will cull for an expen diture nt' $1,000. When it is thought through clearlv, it is seen that ocuii omically it is a saving of nt least $'200 for the ensuing year. As for the representation that the secretary to the superintendent has filled the position for both offices that of superintendent and pfhtci pul. this has not been the ease ex--cept in name and mis representation. This has not been done nor can the same he done. A little investigation will show this clearlv. What little time has been put in in tho princi pal's office has been lit a sacrifice of work in the other office and the help has been absolutely iuiulenuate for the needs of the principal's office. There are three possibilities of get ling the work done in some sort of n way. First the principal ntav do the necessary work at a great sacrifice to his luitiu duties tit a salary of per haps $'.0( per mouth. Si id. an other teacher might he cuiploved mid placed in the principal's office at a salary of 1, 111)0, us is ("icnio tit some systems, t,i- several teachers might do the work in the principal's office who? salary in the aggregate mi"ht amount to a regular toucher's sal- itrv. Third, an office girl might he employed at it maximum of .?"() per month for nine months, or a total of .f t.-)!) for the year. This work must lie done if one is going to have school efficiency at all. If thought through clonrlv and coiisitentlv, it is seen' that the first two are false economy, and that it is not good business. The lat ter will take care tif the same in a more efficient manner at a compara tively small mnn. as compared with other phiits. Thin recording of cer tain reports, cheeking of grades. making out of various kinds of blanks that must be hail, and III ninny ottier .tilings' ot an allied na ture, would lie done by this office girl. This renilires someone that i: responsible and can bo held respon sihle for what is more important thnn acnurate records and well kept rec ords. ' The need for these two cinploveo. enn ho. slto'wn definitely and clearly to n nV patron or citizen that will take the time fo investigate. It will also he seen that the true economical plan instead of the false economy plan has been suggested. KIH'CATOH. ASK : any Firestone Truck A Tire user in this city about his experience with them.
