The tnnvn wan started thru Hnv. Thoro wan not tho gathering at tho Sunnysido Sunday morning thnt we untially have but there was quite a roapectublo company. Among them was Charles Kdmondson, wife and daughtor 'Itttrnlce, .Mr. Vernon Jones of Hullo Knlln, Oun 1ho Tal'- n-'l wife. Jack (iarrott, Krank Knrroll, N'ihI Vilas, of Moil lord; tho throe last named came out to work on the Hup py Camp picnic ground Hint was re cently purchased by tho Modford Klkn on Itogito river near tho mouth of Little Initio crook, hut came by hero to out chicken dinner, (ilen Haley, Thomns Riley, Planoy Lcabo. Win. Coy. iXelllo Coy, h. H. Patrick and C. V. Ithodni. our county sur veyor were hero for dinner. Monthly morning the ntitos began to dash thru our town quite curly on tholr way to Modford to witness tho performance of tho aviators, and by 8 o'clock a, m. lloraco Gepport of It n 1 1 o Kails drove up to the gato with his father, mother, sister, Mrs. Roy Casoy and two children, IiIb two little brothers, nnd took In another broth er, Lewis, hero on tholr way to sco thu sights. Romeo's slstor, Mrs. Anna Corum nnd two girls had come out and spent tho night at the Sunny sido and gono on to Mcdford with tho mull carrier, Mr. Harnlsh. Dur ing tho duy our streets wero almost descried. Monday I took n jaunt out to tho h!s way lot rutorplllor work. I notice In my last that I spoke of It as a tractor but It Is a different machine from the trac tors as It runs mora llko a raterplller, Instead of having wheels It propolis Itsulf more like an endless ( chain, work'ni; ,l:i oa the ground and' Is called a caterpillar, but I had seen tho machine and. wanted to see It work, so when I reached the field where they Wero plowing 1 came In contact with a four-foot wire fence with a barbed wire above It and the next question was how was I to get over the fence and go to tho machine The reader will remember that your correspondent Is not as active as a boy of sixteen, but I found a tele- phono polo along tho fence and' by holding to that -climbed over, catch Ing my clothes on the barbed , wire occasionally but doing no damage, finally reached, the ground and then started across tho plowed ground to rt-tro- t'.;o -to woo at Tar!:, cni that was no small Job for the ground had been plowod about a foot deep and was as rough as It looked, but finally roached the level ' ground. They were having trouble with the engine, but Jlnal!ycgot 'up motion again and went right along at a rate of about twoJmllciiJ art hour;-They had raised two of the eight plows out. of tho ground, finding', that the eight fourleon-tncht plows were too much for the onglno( but they were doing a good Job except on the cor ners where they had to turn and there they skipped a strip about three or four ,feetv wide but after they got thru plowing the tract they Intend to plow those places t out leaving the field In fine shape tor fall sowing. 1 - I should hnvo said that the land Is genuine sticky. Krom the appenr- anco of things the tractor and cater- plllcr will soon bo doing most Ot the plowing. . Monday evening Wm. Perry came In and brought with him a man who gave his name as Waddoll of Med- ford, to hnvo him take a room. He had brought out a new hay baler for Mr. Perry and was to stay and help him gut It started. Air, Perry Is one of our hustling farmers and doeB bunlniss about right. Ho raises a large itiiantitv of hay and uses his own machines and now he has a hay 'nt'er and will probably do most of he haling In the neighborhood. ' Vorna Muthews came near break 'ng bin arm a fow days ago. Ho was itrclchlng wire fence and the "dog" fulled to catch letting the stretcher 'ty back and struck his arm near the wrist. . Monday was rather a busy day Sore, Kijlph and Lloyd Stanley wore 'i thong tho callers, and two of the S.ewurt boys, who have recently re turned from service In the navy pass- ed thru on their way to their home In Hutto Kails. . .
