Bill." is the uninue invitation which heralds' the an nouncement of a big social function tendered Red Cross workers bv the Elks, at the time nnd place specified. This event will be in the wav of a recognition of services well perform ed bv Red Cross workers in nnv branch of the service, and all such are cordially welcome. Some deserv ed rewards of merit will be present ed to those whose labors of love have been especially noteworthy in local Red Cross annals, and these sou venirs will possess intrinsic value as well as tvpifving gratitude for faith ful and efficient service in the great relief organization. Another musical treat is in store at the parks on Friday evening this week, the event being u band concert, the second in the season of the series which began May 9. The programs are varied, embracing catchv. popu lar and classic selections. The init ial concert incorporated eight num bers, only one of which, "Ragged Ike," was a march, which even sug gested ragtime melodies. The snlvadge depot, conducted for months past bv members of the Civic Improvement club under Red Cross auspices, has been closed permanent ly, having fulfilled its mission, which was to gather odds and ends from every branch of trade, and as its name implied, retail, the salvaged stock to best advantage. Results ex ceeded all expectations, nnd hun dreds of dollars through this agency have been diverted to various chan nels with which the Red Cross is iden tified. It would be difficult to find a more fuithful bund of workers than the ladies of the salvage corps, un less we except the lively force of girls and voung matrons who have so diligently managed the Red Cross cunteen station nt the depot. The salvage corps are gratsful for pat ronage received and in due season will tender a statement of stewardship well performed. . Sheep shearing on the ,,1-Ierrra ranches across Bear Creek, yielded soort returns, tne ticeces mxrugiiig well on the basis of 10 pounds each. which at prevailing prices of 50c or better for wool made the vicld per head about $5. The flock is in the, neighborhood of 1,000 nnd is in fine condition this season.
