The suit case was found to be llnod with chloride of lime, so that in case one or more of the bottles were broken the chem ical action of the lime would destroy the odor of the whiskey and make it impossible to tell what the fluid was T.tthla water at De Voe's. Including the number of men placed in' positions yesterday by Superintendent Janes were four Jackson county soldiers. one of whom obtained a lucrative and permanent job as bookkeeper with a Klamath county lumber camp. Since the signing of the armistice out of applications made by forty returned soldiers Superintendent Janes has found work for 20 of them. That section had a serious epidemic of flu there being 51 deaths recorded in that vicinity since October. The loss of life among the Indians was heavy. The situation is almost wholly clear ed up now. Mr. Agee says there are many amusing scenes aboard the trains now, coming into this state from California, as all suit cases arc shaken by officers to note If they produce that suspicious gurgling sound.
