diction of this morning to realise
that rain was due tonight and tomor
row, for everyone knew that that
strong southeast wind would .bring

has. again reached such a serious
state that the city authorities have
established a strict quarantine on
homes where there are flu cases,
and have passed legislation providing
for a 1 1 00 fine for any member of a
family! who violates the quarantine.

The public schools made a fine
showing under existing conditions
with an average of over SO per cent
In attendance last Saturday, which
was the first holiday in which the
schools were in session to make up
time lost thru the flu vacations. The
attendance by grade schools follows:
Lincoln, 84.9; . Roosevelt, . I
Washington, 79.3, and Jackson, 72.5
per cent. The average of the high
school was above 90 per cent.

The one day's conference of the
Oregon Congress of Mothers and the
Parent Teacher association is being
held today at the girls polytechnic
school In Portland. This conference
Is taking the place of the annual con
vention to have been held In Medford
in October but postponed on account
of war conditions.

charge had arrived and he would
leave San Diego at the end of the

While the press associations have
not published a word yet about when
the 65th artillery is to sail for home
from France, andthe war depart
ment has not given out anything, the
Coos Bay Times of Murshtiekl last
Friday published the following: "A
cablegram received on the Bay yes
terday from boys of the 65th stated
that they were sailing from Brest for
the United States. This will bring
them into an Atlantic port early next
week. They Will probably be sent
west immediately to one of the Pa
cific coast camps, where demobiliza
tion will be effected. The news of
the nearness of the return ot the
65th in which are the majority of the
boys who left with tlfe 11th company
has started discussion in the city of
some means of celebrating their re-!
turn."
