The legal duck hunting season closes January 15. Ice skating in the Rogue - River valley Is an unusual winter sport in this climate, but the Grants Pass Courier states that due to the pro longed spell of freezing weather fine skating is reported on Hull's lake, a few miles down the Rogue river from that city. County Agricultural Agent Cate who is also the government weather official of the county will give a lec ture on the weather tomorrow mor ning before the general science class of the high school at 9 o'clock. Miss Margaret Mansfield, of. Pros pect, Ore., returned to the university to resume her college work. She will complete her sophomore work this spring. Eugene Register. - R. C. Barkley, traveling auditor of the Southern Pacific railroad with headquarters in San Francisco, i is here checking up the accounts of the passenger and freight depots. One ot the unkindest cuts our fair city ever received comes from that enterprising and thriving town of Gold Hill, whose reporter says in the latest issue of the News: "Medford was certainly the deadest town on the map New Year's day. Gold Hill was a metropolis beside n. There simply was nothing doing in the Ford town whereas there is always something doing it nothing more than a dog fight In Gold town." Geo. H. The im mense citrus fruit was brouelit to Medford yesterday to be placed on exhibition. - , The lemon is 18 inches bv 17 i inches in circiimfcrance, and a more healthy, fine looking lemon pne would not care to see. The samo tree lust venr bore a similar crop of large lemons of fine appearance, tartness and flavor. One of these lemons cut up made as many pies as would four or five ordinary lemons.
