Tbo poor apples broimlit ex actly the same prices as the very fin est fruit, showtiiK that the, British public Is liunxry for American fruit, There have been trcquent reports that a refund of 75c per box on the freight was torn Inn and these reports nooe;ir to be well authenticated but so far exporters I.nvo not got tneir bands on the colli and that Is what counts. Without this refund it is practically a euphemism to say that no 0110 will make any big money on the shipment regardless of the max' linum price, but If -the rorund comes those who sent over the cheaper fruit such as WatHonvllle Nowtowns jlll make a reasonable profit. There has been considerable mis- understanding with reference to the maximum not wclisht on which sales of American apples are made In the British markets. As a matter of fact, tho sales are mado on a pack age basis, namely 1 9 shillings and 9 nence maximum for boxes and 07 shillings and 8 ponce maximum for barrels regardless of the net weight of the packages. Should a barrel or box weigh less than. 130 pounds net and 38 pounds net respectively the fruit would be sold on a pound basis but If. tho weight exceeds the figures given tbo sales would be made on a uaokaso IiobIs with the limit as stated of 07 shillings, s pence on uarreis and 19 shillings, 9 pence on boxes.
