of the death of two young men of
company I, Third Oregon infantry,
which was stationed in this city on
guard duty early in the war. Private
Eugene D. Johnson ot Woodburn,
died in a hospital in France Oct. 2,
of wounds received in action. He Was
the son of T, Johnson, Southern Pa
cific agent at Woodburn and was a
last: year's graduate of the Woodburn
high school. Corporal Carl F. Alli
man of Woodburn, who went ; to
France with company I, and was la
ter transferred to company B, First
Field battalion,' signal corps, ' has
been reported as killed in action in
France on Oct. 31st.

road Inborors in their living cars at
Montague, becauso so many ot the
party were ill with lnfluenm. The
Mexicans havo been employed on the
S. P. railroad around Grenada but
when the epidemic struck the party
the cars in which they lived were
hauled to Montague where the men
