enjoyed a big downpour and every
one, hopes one Is now scheduled.

had would cause a good deal of dam
age along Bear creek bottoms. The-

growth of willows in the channel
which will have a tendency to block
'the stream and cause a heavy wash
ing of the banks and overflow of the
lowlands.
In 1903 over 10 Inches of rain fell
In a November storm and the low
lands were flooded on each side of
the channel. In 1910 nearly 10
Inches fell In the latter part of No
vember and a largo force of men
tvore omployed by tho city to provenl
flood damage A similar rainfall in
.1911 caused a wide enlargement of
the channel.
Since tho latter dnto only light
rains have fallen and tho music of a
roaring creek has been seldom heard
not heard at all during the past
six years. , '

Because the quality of lumber pro
duced from month to month, the de

ed States facrories were reduced as
time went on. In addition to the air

has asked President Wilson to use
his good offices with the allies to
secure a modification of the Turkish
armistice terms so as to permit sev
eral thousand former Austro-Hun-garlan
subjects now in the Ottoman
territory to remain there instead of
returning home to add to the already
serious food problems.
