Germany and Austria-Hungary havo made repeated protestations of the IiIkIi moral ideals by which they are guided In their conduct of the war. -Hut If these pro testations are examined In the light of the persecutions to which the Jews of eastern tiurope huve been exposed they appear rather Inane. Not only have, tho central powers entirely nesJerted tho interests of the Jews In the occupied territories of Poland and Lithuania, but they have actually enrouratvi there a pol icy of political and economic oppres sion, deliberately Ignoring every claim of the Jews. And they have not merely denied their rights; they havo overwhelmed them with wrongs.
