He will probably be man-.amused. , County Clerk Gardner did his best o keep Sheriff J-cnnlngs from reslgn ng from the ticket, altho he has inlisted for service, and been called j the colors. His departure has been ostponed on account of the Influ inza epidemic. On account of Gard ler's dictatorial attitude, and to void ibelng forced off the ticket, Sarrctt has qualified as an indepen ent. : With the appointment of County Assessor A: 11. On Frldiiy afternoon, Oct. 11, at 3 o'clock, Ash land will put the capital P in patrio tic pep, and also placo the big V in victory, all thru tho agency of a spontaneous rally guisei as a com munity sing. Tho gntherfng will bo hold in tho Chautauqua auditorium. The public schools will be dismissed in time to participate. Thefo will be music, also talks by our bet local speakers, and it is planned to mike tho event one possessing all the ehar acterltics of a patriotic love feast. It Is unnecessary to add that the object of this rally is to give an im petus to the Liberty loan movement. This district Is still lachsng in the specified quota duo to be ralfed by Oct. 19. Ashland has pursued the voluntary rnbscrlpllon plan in the present lainpnign with good results, but in order to cup an achievement, rocourso must be, had thru other channels if present efforts fall to score on the homestretch. There will be no hagKling over this matter, either, for the direct question will ba applied, "What Is victory worth to you?" We now have a great inspiration, and let fhe re sponso be commensurate with that Inspiration. The news from the pat tle front inspires every America heart, not only with pride and patri otism, but with a great incentive to do his or her part. There is no shirk ing, no shifting of the Individual burden, no selfishness, by onr sol diers in France, and there should he none here. We arc both, supporting the same cause our army in one way, ourselves in another but theirs is the greater burden. Should we not fulfil our obligation, in the midst of ease and contentment, as prompt ly, as loyally and efficiently as' our soldiers do theirs? Tho community sing will bo well worth attending on its own merits, even if the direct motive of the rally is a bond rally. Tho entire move ment is patriotic all the way thru, and tho employment of a little inno cent camouflage in the way of desig nation should nol detract from the main purpose, which is a fixed re solve to back tho government in meeting its financial obligations. Granted the expenditures are prodig ious, the demands must be met and tho ultimate benefit to be derived Is beyond compare. Ashland is not the only locality that is shy in meeting quota require ments up to the present date, but this circumstance will not deter us in reaching the goal in due season I SEATTLE, Oct. 10. Referr inR to an extraordinary session of tho Dutch cabinet which has leen held, the ilandelshlud says it is very persistently rumored that the gov ernment is considering offering Its service to hoth tho belligerent groups Tho school board is still in a quan dry on the question of establishing a night school. The matter was dis cussed at last night's mooting of the 'hoard and i special committee was appointed to further investigate. Thero has not been a very hourly re sponse so far to Superintendent Dav enport's riMtuest made- somo time ago tvr all persons who would like to at tend a night school to report to him, either in person or by postal card. But the big problem, facing the school is to provido teachers for the suggested school, as t.w members are .unanimously of the opinion that tho regular day teacher;; should not bo used at night. To oMaln compe tent outside teachers will bo rather difficult as such teachers would have to certify with tho state school de partment. Tho board approved of tho ap pointment of Mrs. V. C. .VlcUeynokU. wife, of the head of the commercial department of the high' school, as teacher In tho Roosevelt building to till a vacancy. The board also ap proved of the recent transfora -of teachers made by the snperiutcncient, who transferred the sixth grade from Jackson 'to Lincoln school in order that one moroteacher might he, pro vided for Washington school Tvhere thero was a congestion. Miss, Mabel Mickey . was transferred fnirn the Roosevelt to the Washington build ing and Miss Theone Carkin from the Roosevelt to the upper department work in the Washington ' building. Then Miss Alta M. .lohnso i, principal of Jackson school was giv sn tho fifth grade at tho Jackson h jilding and Miss Anna Jeffrey, who formerly had tho 0th grade at Jackson school, was transferred to Roosevelt school. with a view to their reaching an agreement. Asthe sun of life sinks toward the west Life has bceriisaid.to consist of a constant succession of breakdowns and repairs. In old age, the former predominate. The body machirt-e is more or less worn out. Digestion is less perfect, elimination of waste is increased in quantity, but reduced in efficiency. V ' -y..'- , Hence, constipation is particularly pernicioui. Constipation means more than mere failure of the bowelj to move regularly and thorouehly. Jt means stagnation of the contents of the intestine, increased fermentation, putrefaction and germ action, the production of irritating 'and poisonous substances, that are absorbed into the i blood and carried all over the body. 1 This is arrays serious in old age it is especially dangerous. ' Constipation cannot be cured by drugs at any age. It is especially harmful to an aged person to use pills, salts, and similar strong purges in order to force the bowels to act. , ' Rut The Nujol Treatment for Constipation Is not only safe, it is in every way efficient.
