LONDON, Aug. 27 (7 p. m.) French troops last night and today advanced for an average depth of two to three miles on a. front of 8 miles, capturing the towns of Roye and Crapeau Mesnil, according to news received here tonight from the battle front. To the north of the region of the French advance British troops push ed forward between Ilerlevllle and the river Sommo and reached the outskirts of Domplerre. Field Marshal Iluig's mon are lu the outskirts of Bupnumo but they are not actually In the town itself. The greatest depth of the British advance today represents a distance j of about three miles. PARIS, Aug. 27. (Havas). The new British attack along the Scarpe river s making progress' at many J points, notably between the railroad from Arras to Douaai and the Arras Cambral highway, according to dis patches to newspapers here. ' ltoyo Is Captured ., 'BY ASSOCIATED PRESS. Aug. 27. Roye, one of the bastions of the German line in the southern sector of the Plcardy battlefield, has been captured by the French. Starting early today the French moved ahead from the region of St. Mard, whore they had been holding their lines against violent and repeat ed counter attacks for the last few days. Late dispatches from the front have told of the French being at St. Gllles, a suburb of Roye, and of in cursions by General Debeney's men both south and north of Roye. Farther north the British were In the outskirts of Bapaume this morn ing, but nothing has been reported as to later developments there. The enemy Is fighting savagely In that area, seemingly being determined to beat off tho British In this lutcst serious onslaught against the Ger man front. Americans Attack East of Arras, British troops are unofficially reported to have pierced the Hindenburg line east of Heninel. There have been few details of the fighting In this area during the last day. Along tho Vesle river American troops today attacked the Germans at Bazochcs, where the enemy has been intrenched since his retreat from the Marne. LONDON, Aug. 27 British forces are established in the northern out skirts of Bapaume, according to the official statement issued at the war office today. There is hard fighting around Croissilles, farther north. Since last Wednesday, the British have taken 21,000 prisoners, the statement says. The British have pushed thru the town of Montauban, three miles north of the Somme and capturing the wood near that place, have reached Longueval, the statement says. Australian forces have made sub stantial progress south of the Somme and east of Suzanne, north of the river, the statement adds. North of the Scarpe rlvoi' Scot tish troops renewed their attack against the Germans last night arid have advanced towards Plouvalu, the statement says.
