Frank Elliott returned Tuesday from California where he has been for several months. Word has been received from Charles Tryer that he has been trans ferred lo Camp Merrlit, Now Jersey. Quito a crew of men are loading ties and lumber at the dopot from the mills on Wagner and Anderson creeks. The ties are to go to Ash land where they will be treated with creasoto before being used for rail road purposes. Church sorvlces as usual next Sun day. Bell left Wednesday for Portland to take the final examina tion; ho will then enter tho Benson Polytechnic Institute in that city. Professor lteimer and family re turned recently from a trip lo Crater Lake. Miss-Edna Wells accompanied by Miss Dclpha Coleman of Jacksonville left Thursday for Portland, to at tend the G. A. R. convention. Three tons of sugar was hauled to the cannery Thursday afternoon for the season's canning. Mr. and Mrs. Wells and daughter, Miss Edna spent the week end at Crater Lake. The Garvin brothers are sinking a shaft at the town well to see if an increase in the water supply can be obtained. SIS VALLEY . The rain of Wednesday was one of tho first real rains onr valley has had since early April. Altho it did some harm to the unthrcshed grain It was of much benefit to the late growing gardens. Richard Strauss Is on the verge of closing a deal for a Urge farm trac tor. Homo of the grain being threshed went over expectations whilo some fell short, but taking it in general it did fairly well considering the sea son. Some of the orchardists have com menced pear picking and have lately bc"en interviewed by several buyers. MIhs Bulah Morrino who has spent most of the summer with her sister, Mrs. H. I. Pelton, returned Tuesday to her home in Kansas. The Union Sunday school group gathering which met Sunday on the Nealon ranch proved very successful. A large attendance gathered from all over the county, who greatly enjoyed tho program and took to heart the splendid address by Hev. Rooser of Grants Pass. Wo areglad that such work as this is undertaken, by the Union misaionary for there Is nothing during this daVk time, that could be more needful or reconeiliating than a gathering of this kind where each side by side gives a day's thought to the one power which can sustain when all others fail. Karl Moore and family of Central Point visited Saturday and Sunday with V. C. Kenney and family. Mr. Moofe expects to soon leave for Mon tuna. K. C.
