After breakfast we go to !. our certain duties that have been as signed us. Everything has to be first ; class. The officers inspect every morning. You have to know how to salute , an officer. You havo to give what is called a snappy salute. I'm not a bit sorry about joining the army. If i I had It to do over again I would i enlist Just the same. Don't rorgot to ',f ,lanS a star in your window to let everyone know you have a son In the i army. I'm sure the war will be over ; this year. This is about all for this time. Don't forget to put "Pvt." on'all my letters as I'm not a "rookie" any more. After a few months 1 11 bo a ..first-class private and after n while a sergoant maybe. This is all for now. Your loving son, i HARRY KYLE.' John Grebb of-Eagle Point writes to his father from Ft. Ralph Relcom has written friends In Medford that he is attached to the G5th artillery .band. Ho was in the 655th band but was left behind in Juarantlno when the other boys sail ed for France. My Dear Folks: Just received three letters from you ni'ter two weeks ot' no mail ami you etui imagine how ejud I wits to henr from you and especially tluil yoibure all well tisNthis leaves me. Today hits turned off a perfect summer ilav after about two weeks; of rainy mid dull weather. Wo think summer is now here and I hope so. We huve been issued our summer un derwear which .will add to our com fort during the warm weather. I'm glml to hear that you have bii much jrarjen stuff of your own this year as it all helps. As for mgtw i believe 1 could cat fruit without it. And Oregon has certainly done her self proud. I urn sincerely jilod to call her my home. I am ylad to lirur of Jir.'kson coun ty's ready response to every cull and believe me we boys all feel in the highest spirit. Things look rather encournigng just now and. hope they will continue so until I lie trruiul ii nale. 1 had a p'iss ycMcnliiji- to a large city ner.r.here, the first pass I have had. 1 had a must enjoyable time. I ate my dinner at an American Ked Cross canteen and it sure seemed mighty nice to hear and sec some American women. 1 received a fine letter from Mr. and Mrs. Close which I shall answer soon. Letters from home afford me sonic topics to discuss and so the more questions you ask and that I am per mitted to answer afford me some chance to write an inlercstin letter. Wo have just been favored with an American V. M. C. A. and 1 don't be lieve you folks can appreciate the comfort and pleasure they afford us. They certainly are the supreme stuff in army life especially in a for eign land. I find I am permitted lo tell you folds that we are located a great dis tance in the rear of the lines hut of course we don't know when wo will have to leave' here. We have been issued our gas masks and helmets and are learning to accustom our selves to them. They both seem real awkward anil uncomfortable at first, but it is griiiliiiillv wearing off. The gas masks were the hardest to get used to. They fit real tight and we suffered some from headaches at first but we can wear them now for epiite a long period and take short' hikes with litem. Wc went to another camp lo play a oncert Sunday but it started to ruin about noon and kept up until we had to return home, i Am feeling fine and hope yon are 'lie same. Lots of love to all. our devoted son and brother. I.I'.U WILLIAMS, (Tith Artillery Hand. I. S. I urn enclosing u French popy, something real French. 1. S.
