American consulate were rooms in

The consulate's room was just.

Ihese prisoners apparently did not
know America was in the war. Some
of them came into the consulate the
first day it opened and asked if the
Americans were still handling the
matter of prisoners relief.
The embassy was made welcome
and a huge wooden structure formerly
used as a merchants' club was turned
over for ils use.

Captain F. II. La Guardia, of N'ew
York City, representative in the
American congress, has told the
Spanish people that they and their
government are injuring themselves
by friendliness toward Germany. lie
pointed out in an interview given to
the Mnrcclona La Publicidud, that
while Spain was taking this attitude,
her vessels carrying raw materials vi
tally necessary to Spanish industries
were being ruthlessly sunk by Ger
man submarines.
Publication of the interview has
caused a stir throughout Spain. Rcp

pleted a trip through Spain to study
the effect of the. many sided German
propaganda floated there. He finds
that about f0 per cent of the "think
ing classes" in Spain are avowedly
