The organization of the Jackson
county "Hoover Drive" committee
lias been perfected und preparations
for the drive during pledge card week,
October 21 to 28, tire well under wo',
'the instruction cards for educational
work have been distributed thruout
the county and tlio work in the
schools wil begin at once, under the
direction of County Superintendent
Ager.
The Medford schools will "do their
hit" under the super vision of Superin

Tho valley will soon liuve a new
fruit industrial concern which will
afford a local market for nn enor
mous (innntlty of cull apples, anl be
sides will give employment to about
fifly persons during the working sea
son of several months.
K. M. MeKeany, tho well-known
local fruit man, and W. 0. Allen, a
well-known fruit man of Salem, havo
formed a partnership and have leased
the Central Point packing house for
threo years, which they will turn Into,
a largo apple drying concern. They
will operate under the name Allen &
MeKeany, Applo company.
Tho new concern wll begin operat
ing within ten days, just as soon as
tho furnace, dryer and crates have
been installed. Messrs. MeKeany and
Allen have already made arrange-,
moots with packing houses and or
chardlsts of the valley to tako from
them 400 tons of cull apples this
fall, which will bo dried at the Cen
tral Point plant.
They figure on the plant turning
out a ton of driod apples dally, and
aro planning to opeuit-; tiie plant for
two and a half months this full.

tho Chautauqua aditorium m this
city on Sunday, Oct. 14. The follow
ing Is the Ashland unit of a tri-city
program which began at Phoenix on
Friday, was continued at Talent on
Saturday and will he concluded here
on Sunday. Arrangements are under
way to make this convention tho most
successful one in the history of tho
county association.
