Douglass and family left for tbetr new home In Gooding, Idaho, on Tuesday evening, followed by the well wishes of all citizens ir respective of denominational affilia tions. On Monday evening, in view f their departure, a public recep tion was held at the Methodist church in honor of the family, the gathering; being held under the auspices of the Teacup club. As pastor and friend Mr. Douglass has unceasingly taken opportunity for being useful in count less ways, and his family have been active and helpful In all of the up lifting activities of both church and community. At the leave taking an appreciation of thepastor's efficient work In this field, covering a period of four years, . found expression in sentiments of regard and affection gauged more than from the stand point of commonplace esteem. Their new home will be in Lincoln county, and in a thriving town In southern Idaho, located on the Oregon Short Line. Rev. G.'K. Berry, pastor of the Christian church here during the memorable Oliver revival period, and recently connected with the Kern Park church in Portland, has been tendered the pastorship of the church at Corona, Calif. , Mrs. Kenneth McWillinms is teach ing in the schools of Grants Pass, at first temporarily as a supply, but as her merits as an instructor became apparent, recognized ability won for her a permanent place. The 2th annual convention of the Jackson County Sunday school asso ciation, in session at Phoenix Oct. 12, at Talent the 13th, winds up with a big rally at the Chautauqua auditorium in this city, on Sunday, Oct. 14. The big hall will be needed to accommodate the crowd which is coming from all parts of the county. The Sunday school of the Christian church at Medford Is to attend in a . body, and various other church afflli ; at!ons will he here in relative pro portions. L. D. McKee, former resident, Is now In the employ of the Michigan Central railway at Michigan City, Indiana. Cur tis, who died last Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Yates East Main street, were held on Tuesday. Interment was In Moun tain Vlev cemetery. Deceased was a native of Ohio, S2 years of age. The man found wandering on local streets last Sunday finally gave the name of Harry Martin. It Is thought ho might have fallen off one of the troop trains. In the meantime he Is In the hands of county authorities pending developments. The steps scaling PeH's hill, which shorten' the dis tance from the Plaza around the horn to Granite street to an extent equal ing the Lucin cutoff at Salt Lake, relatively, are to be rebuilt. The prospect Incorporates a reduction of the grade from 75 to at least 25 per cent, with a remodeled stairway in keeping with the demands of a "safe ty first" proviso as applied to pe destrian traffic. While a party of tourists who passed thru here lately were bathing in the Pit river In Shasta county, fire destroyed their tent, including bag and baggage. I Wm. M. Richards, who died recent ly at Kerby, In Josephine county, was a native of England, coming to Amer ica in 1853 and to Oregon in 1879. In 1881 he was married to Mrs. Sarah Chandler of Ashland. For several years he followed lumbering pursuits in Ashland creek territory. Ills wifo and several children survive him.
