A recent order of the poslolfiee
department put into effeel u ruilieiil
change nt!eetinj the postoft'iees of
Jackson county and make the Med
ford puMot t'ice of fur inure impor
tance and confers more authority and
prestige on Hie .Meilford po-lmaster,
altlio greutly inerea.-intr the lutterV
responsibilities and dulies.
Hy this order, beginning with Oc
tober I the Medford office heenme
the central accounting and. disburs
ing office for nil tiie postofliees of
the county except A-hland. Hereto
fore these postofliees received nil
their stamps and supplies, direct from
the po-dnt'tieo department at Wash
ington. Now each one of these offices will
make nil its requisitions for stamps,
stamped envelopes, postal curds, etc.,
upon ttie Medford postoffiee mid will
receive the supplies from Ibis nfl'iee,
where nn ample supply will always
he kept on hand.
Kach postmaster must make all
his quarterly reports to Colonel Geo.
1'. Mints, the Medford postmaster,
who will check them up anil forward
them to the postoffiee department at
Washington. Altlio this change tints
more work and responsibility on Col
onel Minis, his salary remains the
same and tiie size of his bond is not
increased.
The change was made in order to
expedite the delivery of supplies to
the postmasters of the smaller of
fices anil to more systematize the
keeping of the accounts of the vari
ous smaller offices with the postof
fiee department.
Heretofore much inconvenience
was cunsed the smaller postoffiees
because of the fact that all requisi
tions hnd to be made to Washington,
mid it took such a long time for the
supplies to he expressed buck.
Tiie first postmaster to take ad
vantage of the new ruling was the
jHistnmsler of Tnlenl, who made n
requisition this morning for niiteh
ncedet! supplies. He received them
this afternoon.
