'I am satisfied that the future prosperity and growth of the valley depends upon irrigation." said 'Mr. Coleman. "Without water, the val ley will go backwards. With water it will steadily go forwards. Irriga tion Is necessary if the valley Is ever going to amount to anything. "1 have been a resident of the val ley since 1878 and far many years en gaged in business- here. I think any kdd-tlmer will admit that my word Is as good as my bond. I am not a seeker after publicity or ofice and have only the welfare of the valley at heart. I "I find that many farmers are afraid that if district bonds are voted the money will be squandered, but the fact that the expenditures are under state supervision and construc tion is by the state engineers,, and the funds will be administered by local men of unimpeachable in tegrity, should be a guarantee that the district will be well managed. I am willing to trust my interests in their hands. "I am the owner of 84 7 acres of visit of the Motor Dealers association of Oregon to this city. , This morning the visitors had a big surprise awaiting them when their treasurer approached Emil Mohr. manager of the hotel, to pay the ban quet bill, and were told that the bill had already been paid by the Med ford dealers. They could hardly believe the news when the treasurer circulated it i among them, for it waa the first city or town during their week's trip down rrom Portland tUat the associa tion did not have to foot the bill for the banquet tendered the members. The action of the Medford dealers made a distinct hit with the visitors. especially as the banquet and enter tainment tendered them was the best of the nvany feeds enjoyed during the week. ' . m m m The banquet was .served at the Medford at -7: 30 Friday evening with 65 persons, including the local deal ers and. their wives, seated at the tables. .Quite a number of the deal ers and their guests did not wait for he banquet but left for Portland or for Crater Lake In the afternoon.
