Brown, 19 years old, of Company I, committed suicide at 3:50 o'clock this morning In the company armory at the corner of Central Avenue and Sixth Street, by shooting himself In the head wlt'.t his service rifle. Death was Instantane ous, as the bullets blew oft the top of his head. No cause for the act of self-destruction is known except that Brown had ceen troubled with Insomnia tor four or five days past, and bis Inability to sleep worried htm greatly about his general health. He spoke'of this wor ry to a number of his comrades. The dead man's home was at Can by, Oregon, and he had been a mem ber f Company I since last April. On the company's records his fader's name is given as E. C. Brown, and the lattcr's address as Oregon City, rural route 3. The dead soldier was of a quiet and reserved disposition, and was pop ular amqng his comrades. Both Cap tain Grover Todd and the enlisted members of the company speak in the highest terms of his character. His tragic death has oast an air of gloom over tho command. Private Brown was on guard duty at the armory building until midnight last night. When relieved from duty he at once went to bed in the company barracks on the top floor. He arose about 3:45 o'clock this morning nnd came down stairs to the balcony lloor where he entered a small room. His movements attracted no notice what ever from the guard on duty, nor of several other soldiers who were awake. A fewjhoments after ho entered the room the rifle report was heard by the guard, who rushed to the room and found Brown lying on the floor dead, fte had placed his service rifle on a rack In front of him with the muzzle at his forehead and pulled the trigger. The thirty allber bullet tore off the top of his head. While the report of tho rifle dis charge was heard by a number of res idents in the down town district, most of the members of the company were not awakened by It. ACTS The citizens of Klamath county and northern California are intense ly agitated over the I. W. W. situntion in those sections according to II. L. I was not over in Klamath county, but I met men from there who ure in direct touch with the situntion. "I was told that in mills and lum ber plants in northern California towns I. W. W. emissaries sooked rags in phosphorus and turentine or some other liquid, nnd threw them about in the buildings, or among lumber. In one California mill an employe accidentally discovered one of these burning rags just in time and threw it out of the building time to prevent a fire starting. "I also heard that down in the lava beds section of Klamath coun ty in the past few days u number of head of cattle and sheep had been poisoned. It is thot that the '. W.
