SEE H.B.Patterson State Agent About the Coffield Tire Protector The United States' entrance Into the European war has given a new phase to the discussion among army officers of the part played by Ameri can-made motor cars. in the struggle being waged in northern France. It Is a well-known fact that the huge armies on both fronts are al most entirely dependent upon motor trucks for their supplies of food and ammunition. A large number of these trucks were manufactured in the United States and it is highly probable that tho Amorican overseas forces will be accompanied by the most complete ly equipped truck division which has ever left American ports. The government has approximately 2600 heavy duty trucks ready for service. A majority of these were used on the Mexican border to sup ply to the troops with food, ammuni tion and water. This precious freight had to be car ried by truck trains from Columbus, X. Jf., to Xamlqulpa. 2S4 miles south of the border. And in order that the officers lii command of the various fleets of trucks might accompany them, approximately 300 Dodge Brothers cars carried them back and forth over what Is known as "the worst road In the world." South of Columbus, the cars had to cross alkali flats, which were cut Into axle-deep ruts and fight their way up table lands and slopes covered with mesqulte bush, bowlders, grease wood and sage brush. Between Columbus, which has an elevation of 4062 feet, ano Casa Grande, whose elevation Is 7164 feet, there are numerous moun tain ranges which had to bo crossed. Soon the roads bocame so badly cut that the drlvers'of the cars were forc ed to take to the brush and smash their way through as best they could. y FRAT PINS ANDAUTOS FORT SHERIDAN. 111., May 19. Fraternity pins, college yells and mo tor cars were placed under the ban at the reserve officers training camp to day by Colonel William Nicholson, commandant. A number of the can didates for commissions had been wearing jeweled pins on the olive drab shirts, while other were prone to use their private automobiles for trips about the camp during leisure hours. These, Colonel iNicholson held, did not make for democracy. The men were told that henceforth their schooling is to be that of the Ameri can army and not that of the college campus. Some large American cities have more automobiles than several European countries. The clover leaf or compact three or four passenger body with an aisle be tween the front seats for entrance will be In evidence more than ever Although the price of nearly every commodity has gone up, only a few auto makers have Increased the price of their ears. Car prices are little compared with other things, cheaper higher than a year ago and when than a few years back. To substantiate among; motorists everywhere their claim of the Mux well's championship of the industry in low operating upkeep, upward of 2000 Maxwell distributors and dealers will lute this month curry out in every state in the union and throughout the eight provinces in.
