C, has Bworn to take revenge on Com pany I, Third Oregon Infantry, on duty here, for their defeat nt last Sunday's ball ganio nnd havo issued tho proclamation that a state of war exists between tho two organizations. The artillery have made their "cor rections'" and claim they have the right "azimuth" and "deflection" In order to connect with "Rnsty Rice's" "smoko bombs." They have brought up their reserve of tinea big "siege" guns, Jlclntyro, Moran nnd Antle, and will turn them loose against the "dough boys" "rapid fire" battery in an effort to silenco thorn. Tho infantry, however, has a coun- lor plan of attack which they claim will make the "moon-faced artillery" hist their S. O. S. flag. To tho Editor: in these troublous times we are all continually solicited to help this and that cause that needs assistance and in most instances the help solicited Is in behalf of charities or causes so worthy that they appeal to us and we would he glad to contribute to every ono of them if wo were financially able to do so. There is one appeal, however, that comes to us that we must not nnd cannot ignore, the cry of tho starv ing children of Belgium, it is possi bio that, the reader has already coil tributed ono or more times to this cause but we must give, and give again and again, lf we are to save the lives of these helpless innocents. The Oregon Belgian Children's Food Relief Committee has agreed to take over tho feeding of the children about 2S00, In the provlnco of Bra bant, Belgium. It Is estimated that ?l will maintain a child for one month and the above committee has agreed to furnish $2S00 per month for the next six months and we in Jackson county must do our share in raising thoso funds. The undersigned has been named to represent Jackson county on this committee. All the banks of Medford have agreed to ac cept donations tendered. All funds collected will he forwarded without any expense whatever and the names and residences of donors will bo re ported Willi the funds sent in. . J am sure Medford can bo counted upon to do her full share In providing money to save theso destitute, starv ing innocents and it is hoped that re sponses throughout tho county will be so prompt that we can commence making our remittances to the State Relief committee by June 1st. If subscribers prefer they may re mit direct to S. L. Eddy, Treasurer, care l.ndd ft Tilton Hank, Portland. Oregon. If it is thought best Medford may oigunize and act Independently and make lis remittances direct to Treasurer Eddy. It is result we want for these starving children must be fed. E.V. CARTE It.
