Tho fields of Belgium have heon fertilized with human blood fur centiiricri, as various races and nations strug gled over them for the mastery of Europe, but under Von Missing they were deluged with a cloud-burst of tho blood of innocents wantonly spilled to make a holiday for the Prussian .jugger. Gorman "Kultur" was personified in Von Missing, the brutal slayer of Edith Cavill, and countless other thous ands, the erueifier ot innocent babes, the mutilator of harmless Utile children, the outrager of young girls and the transporter of a nation into slavery and serfdom, whoso torch and sword made Belgium a cindered charnal house. In Von Missing, German terrorism readied its highest scientific development. Not even the inquisition produc ed more ingenious torture. The blood stained record of Atilla the Hun is poor and scanty beside that of this German super-man, who rivaled the dreaded Anvrian in ruthlossiioss, and who set back 1 he clock of civilization for centuries. One oilier conqueror, who like Von Missing, was but a satrap of a div ine right monarch, cursed the low coun tries. Altho '.')() years have passed since then, the mem ory of Alva, duke of Toledo, still brings shudders and curses from the Belgiai .s. And yet Alva's record, fine as it was from the imperial standpoint, and viewpoint of Spanish kultur, pales beside, that of Von Missing. Now 1 would llko to have you, Mr. Editor (as 1 believe you are a man who believes in fair plus) or some one of the city council, explain to nio why a respectable looking sign which doesn't occupy more than eighteen Indies of the sidewalk Is any more obnoxious than a half dozen boxes sitting on (he sidewalk covered with dusty oranges and apples, and papers.
