ORISON, MONDAY, APINL PAGE SEVEN1 JAIL SENTENCE FORI MEDrORT) MATT TRIBUNE MEDFORD, ,.0, 1!)I7 - TZ ... . 11 'v; p - ' Freckles and HisFriends ' 10 BE ANNULLED 'Little Joe'' Wilson, of Ashland, who was recently convicted on a .bootlegging charge by a jury in Jus tice of the Peace Taylor's court will escape the jnil sentence of 30 days imposed on him providing he pays his fine of $200 and his half of the trie costs within the next few days. After several conferences with Wilson and on investigation of the latter's presentation of affidavits from two well known Medford physi cians to the effect that his physical condition was such that confinement for 30 days in jail would do him great harm, County Prosecutor Roberts and Justice Taylor finally decided to annul the jail sentence. Wilson was expected to pay the fine and costs sometime Monday. Wilson had plan- Mcd to appeal his case to the circuit ourt. While C. V. Beeler, the other Ash land man jointly tried and convict j ed with Wilson, has as yet not filed an appeal to the circuit court it is expected that he will do so. Bcelcr was fined $500 and costs and sen tenced to two months in the county jail. The Federal ueserve Hoard haa recom mended to Secretary .McAdoo that funds to be raised under the $7,000, 000,000 war finance law be obtained gradually by offering to the banks of the country blocks of treasury certifi cates to be retired later with bonds every two weeks. Indications are that Secretary Mc Adoo will son announce the offer of another block of certificates. The proceeds will be aplied to the loans to be mado to France and Italy which will total from $200,000,000 to $300,000,000. The Federal Aeserve board's sug gestion contemplates that the cer tificates shall be offered to the high est bidders, no offer below par being accepted. The offer would bo open to all bankers ot the country, state and private Institutions as well as members of the reserve system and to Individuals. Certificates would be convertible into bonds or payablo in cash at the option of the holder. If taken by the banks exclusively the certificates could be used in lieu of cash In paying for bond subscriptions. - Under tills plan a bank whose de positors subscribe to the bonds would not have to forward cash but could forward certificates thus strength ening its financial position and avoid ing the risk of disturbance .In the money market by large withdrawals of money In payment for bonds.
